But DeSantis ruined that. Instead, he decided to effectively cheer on the lawfare and hoped that he would be the beneficiary of it.
He should get on Trump, do an endorsement speech and watch Trump return the praise. The whole screwup if a campaign will be immediately foegotten. He seems to have bad instincts. Why wouldn’t he do this?

I’m surprised DeSantis never got any traction. He has been great as Florida governor. I do think he will give it another run in the future.

I don’t remember it because it didn’t happen. The charges against Trump are laughable and were never taken seriously by constitutional scholars.
The point of the lawfare was always to try to taint his image, and fro the very beginning that strategy backfired badly.
Only snowflakes worried that he wouldn’t survive this attack. DeSantis should have had Trump’s back rather than be a carpetbagger offering himself up as an alternative.

I thought it was pretty good, all things considered. He said that while he has his disagreements with Trump, he pledged to support the eventual nominee, and in the next breath basically said Haley “ain’t gonna be it.”

That’s true - it hasn’t hurt Trump - they only destroyed themselves.
A Republican running against Trump after the 2020 steal and with the lawfare attacks on Trump - was dishonorable. It’s like hitting on the hot wife of your best friend who is MIA. “Your husband may be dead, wanna hook up?”
It was so tacky - the classy move would have been to stand up for Trump back in 2020 when the election was first stolen, then stand up for him each time one if these bogus indictments came down, then fight to get him back in the White House where he belongs. Instead he ran against him!
