Donald Trump has suggested he may choose a new lawyer to represent him when he appeals his damages verdict in a case brought against him by E. Jean Carroll.
On Friday, a New York City jury ordered that the former president must pay $83.3 million in damages to Carroll for statements made in 2019. He said she was lying about allegations he sexually assaulted her inside a Manhattan department store dressing room in the 1990s. That amount includes $7.3 million in compensatory damages, $11 million for reputational repair, and $65 million in punitive damages.

The Republican was represented by the lawyer Alina Habba, who came under sustained criticism for her courtroom performance during the trial.

"I am in the process, along with my team, of interviewing various law firms to represent me in an Appeal of one of the most ridiculous and unfair Witch Hunts our Country has ever seen—The defamation Sham presided over by a Clinton appointed, highly partisan, Trump Hating Judge, Lewis Kaplan, who was, together with certain other Radical Left Democrat Judges, one of the most partisan and out of control activists that I have ever appeared before. Yup; appellate work is much different from trial work.
Hiring a different attorney to handle an appeal is not replacing the trial court attorney. It’s just very normal practice.
Exactly, he didn't even need a lawyer for this last trial, the fix was in from the start.

Perhaps the best known example of this is Alan Dershowitz. He doesn’t often represent cases at trails. He specializes in appeals.
This is very, very common. Anyone making it out to be more than that doesn’t understand how stuff happens.
Often, the trial lawyer is burned out on the case…and just wants to get back to their daily grind. Not saying this is the situation…but it is common.
These media outlets just can’t help themselves. They know or should know why, instead they allude to something nefarious. Just like the Trump Christmas Eve family photo, “Melania Trump was mysteriously missing in the photo, leading many to speculate”. Well, she was with her dying mother and I would bet they knew that.

Correct. Appeals is a specialty practice.
I guess it should also be stated, New York passed this law extending the statutes of limitations for civil suits expressly so EJC could sue Trump in this case - and it got a lot of other lawsuits against other men started too. They even put the cutoff for filing suits and sunseet of the law to coincide with the election year. But at heart, it’s part of the entire lawfare being waged against Trump coordinated by Democrats in various states.
one of my old buddies...after doing everyday cases for a while....that’s all he did was appeals....and and he became an Appeals Court Judge.
Miss Kraken handles appeals work. Ask Gen. Flynn and, bonus, Trump already knows her! In the real world, Trump better hold on to his lawyer, John Lauro - he is the real deal and not the usual Trump flunky lawyer
It was really bad form on her part to run to the press before filing the Motion to recuse/disqualify. Sort of the Lin Wood/Sidney Powell school of useless, self-aggrandizing publicity hounds.
Hopefully, Trump retains a decent appellate attorney to have Kaplan’s atrocious decision reversed.
I am not an attorney.
However I understand that there are specialists in the legal profession just as there are in many other highly technical professions.
I would bet that Habba gave Trump a list of lawyers qualified to represent him on appeal.
Decisions like this will end the justice system in the US
