One time a neighbor's dog got loose and started after me. I turned to face him and with a stern voice said "NO!". That stopped the dog in its tracks. He went back home. I was lucky.
I think people make the mistake of running away or becoming agitated. Motion excites the dogs. A moving target.
Very sad a man lost his life. R.I.P.
Prayers for the family.

I always carry a baton when out walking. Not as good as a firearm, but not as heavy and doesn’t have the telltale shape to print through your clothes. Although I have been known to carry a firearm at times.

My neighbors two Shepard's and Rottweiler got loose and were running around our cul-de-sac when I walked up to them and yelled “GET IN THE DAMNED YARD!!!” They turned around and ran, cowering, into their yard and I shut the gate.
