Three ways House Republicans are backtracking on Biden impeachment
Washington Examiner ^ | March 13, 2024 | Eden Villalovas

House Republicans are beginning to temper expectations about the success of their impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

The possibility of pursuing articles of impeachment remains on the table, but Republicans are far from gathering the near-unanimous support needed to recommend removing him from the White House. A resolution formalizing their impeachment inquiry was approved in December.

Losing steam

Some Republicans feel there’s an unwillingness to follow through, as the chamber has pressing matters to address during a presidential election year. House Republicans face an uphill battle to keep their majority in 2024, and multiple members in vulnerable seats are focused on their reelection campaigns. Headed into November, the GOP majority dwindled further when Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) announced he would resign next week.

“I don’t think we have the will to impeach Joe Biden,” Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) told Fox News. “We just don’t. We’ve got a two-seat majority. You’ve got some guys in these tough districts that don’t want to alienate maybe independents or moderates.”

“They’ve laid out a case for impeaching Joe Biden,” added Nehls, a member of the House Freedom Caucus. “But I just don’t think we have the will to do it.”

Uncovering facts

Republicans have spent months claiming they have evidence of Biden’s wrongdoing, but without producing a smoking gun, they’re beginning to justify their efforts as a fact-finding venture. The inquiry, led by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), has zeroed in on Hunter Biden, subpoenaing AT&T to obtain phone records last week. Hunter Biden has testified that his father wasn’t involved in his business dealings.

“When the staff tells you they can’t identify a particular crime, that’s a problem,” Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) told Fox News. “But we should welcome the investigation. It’s more about letting the voters know the truth.”

If your enemy is making mistakes, leave him alone. It would be far more advantageous to pump the brakes on impeachment (not saying don't do it, just not right now). You want Biden to stay in there to run against because we (and all of America) knows he's a senile dementia patient who's carrying around megatons of political baggage.

Impeach him and you run the risk of getting a Newsome or someone else on the ticket that's much more of an unknown (presidentailly), and probably someone that enjoys better support and can sway voters who might not necessarily be voting for Trump as they are voting against Biden.

A far better solution is to let the election play out as it is, Trump vs. Biden, where Trump stands a much more favorable chance to win (less democrat hanky-panky on election night). Then, regardless of the outcome of the election that is when you impeach him, even if the actual impeachment is after he's left office (because they did that to Trump). Not only does this do to Biden what was done to Trump, but if Trump should win, it would also serve as the Republicans slamming the door in his crack on the way out.

I tend to agree, but I am bothered by the fact that Brandon is as treasonous as it gets. To be stripped of justice under that condition is a high price to pay for political strategizing.

You can bet on it.

Looks like a consortium of Republican campaign consultants and Never Trump operatives have raised 50 million bucks to sabotage Trump.

Do they have a smoking gun but just not releasing it?

Impeaching Biden was never going to happen.

For one thing, it's way too late to impeach Biden. The investigation will take until August given the obstruction by the Bidens and House Democrats and the election is in November.

The investigation is all about getting subpoena power to properly investigate and expose the Biden Crime Family.

Any impeachment will become a political food fight that will energize the Democrat radical base and generate sympathy for Biden with Independents and turn them off to Republicans.

This is just the sad reality of the current state of American politics.

Expose the Bidens and let the voters decide.

Impeach him for one reason only: the treason at the southern border! And as part of that the 300,000 people he has illegally flown into the country from foreign countries. This is treason. This is a high crime. It’s a violation of his oath of office. Why aren’t they getting to work on this. Why do they pretend like it’s not happening. Impeach the SOB.

I think most of the Republicans in Congress could easily live with the Republicans getting swept this election as long as they keep their seats. The GOP seems to enjoy minority status.

Will an impeachment or a 25th Amendment action provoke a Constitutional Crisis (based on the ineligibility of Kamala Harris to assume the Presidency)?

My prediction 2018 was D+40. Result = D+40.

Right now I see D+35 for the House and it could go a lot higher.

The problem with D-3 is that those Senators have to be replaced by Republicans, and the only thing the people hate worse than Democrats - is Republicans.

Re: "Any attempt by the Dems to remove and replace Biden before the election would be a disaster for them."

I strongly disagree.

The Main Stream News Media would simply stop covering any event or interview that even mentions Joe Biden.

The USA Political Left and the Democratic Party would instantly switch into Deep Silence.

Biden would become a non-person within 24 hours.

Fox News would become the only major news source on Planet Earth that even mentions Biden.

I still believe there is at least a 50-50 chance that Gavin Newsom will win the nomination at the Democratic Party Convention.

Newsom is the only Democratic candidate who can beat Trump on short notice in 2024.

If the Republicans had a 50 seat House majority and 75 seat Senate majority they still wouldn’t impeach Biden. They just don’t have any core values or ethics they hold dear. Hold up a dollar and they would kill each other to rip it out of your hand. $ is all they care about.
