WASHINGTON—The Senate missed its midnight deadline to approve a $1.2 trillion package funding federal agencies but passed the measure in the early hours of Saturday morning, averting a government shutdown.
The passage of the measure in a 74 to 24 vote wrapped up months of drama in Congress that centered on conservatives’ demands for deeper spending cuts, completing work on funding the government through the end of the fiscal year in September. The measure, which passed the House on Friday, now goes to President Biden for his signature.
“It’s been a long day, a long week, a very long few months, but tonight we have funded the government,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.).
The Senate vote went ahead after Democrats and Republicans reached an agreement over GOP amendment votes related to contentious issues including immigration policy, all of which then failed. While some parts of the federal government, including the Defense Department, experienced a very brief lapse in funding after 12:01 a.m. Saturday, the White House Office of Management and Budget said it has ended shutdown preparations and agencies would continue normal operations.

They got votes on amendments and the Laken Riley Act ?
But all failed of course
I can’t tell you how sick passing that bill it makes me. Not a single cut, and promoting of things which rot and destroy the nation.
Can anyone voting for it claim our nation is their priority?? Absolutely not!!!
I think the end goal is Central Bank Digital Currency. Our debt will be erased after the fed steals our savings and investments. Then we’ll all get a “social security” check from the government. We will own nothing.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
First, the bottom line ...
Consider that political party and media fuss about "obsolete" electoral college is because it is the only thing stopping the corrupt political parties from establishing a permanent puppet presidency that will unquestioningly sign unconstitutional taxing and spending bills into law.
Regarding the $1+ trillion spending bill, one key question that Democratic and Republican Trump-supporters need to ask about the repealable post-17th Amendment (17A; popular voting for federal senators) ratification Senate's passing of the $1+ trillion dollar spending bill is this.
Militia readiness aside, how many $1+ trillion spending bills based on unconstitutional federal taxes fostered by the long arm of the likewise repealable 16th Amendment (16A; direct taxes) does it take to run the US Mail Service, one of the very few, specific powers that the states have actually given the unconstitutionally big federal government to dictate peacetime domestic policy?
"Article I, Section 8, Clause 7: To establish Post Offices and post Roads;"
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“ If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
From the congressional record:
”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)
"16th Amendment : The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived [emphasis added], without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]." —United States v. Butler, 1936.
I say none, no $1+ trillion dollar spending bills needed.
But an even more important question that needs to be answered concerning federal taxes is this. Patriots, what is your threshold of “pain” for exercising your voting power to put a stop to unconstitutional federal taxing and spending?
The remedy for unconstitutionally big federal government oppressing taxpayers under its boots ...
The tsunami of Democratic and Republican Trump supporters must IMMEDIATELY primary ALL state and federal lawmakers and executives seeking to be reelected this year, except for MTG, Gaetz & Company (and others?).
Majority in new poll say Biden, most members of Congress don’t deserve new term: Gallup (2.2.24)
Voters Doubt Biden’s Leadership and Favor Trump, Times/Siena Poll Finds (3.2.24)
70% of New York voters say Biden not fit to serve another term: poll (2.20.24)
Biden-protecting lawmakers need to be replaced in November with patriots who will support hopeful Trump 47 to not only finish draining the swamp, but also do the following.
New lawmakers additionally need to support Trump in leading the states to put a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes and unconstitutional interference in the affairs of the sovereign states.
More specifically, Trump needs to lead ALL the states need to effectively "secede" from the tyrannical federal government by repealing 16&17A.
Consider the repealing of 16&17A as part of reparations for victim taxpayers of the corrupt federal government for having to pay a lifetime of unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that Congress cannot reasonably justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers and a few other constitutionally enumerated expenses.
The definition of insanity is reelecting your beloved career state and federal lawmakers and executives over and over again, expecting those same politicians to find legislative remedies for unconstitutional government policies every time.
Again, consider that corrupt political party and media fuss about "obsolete" electoral college is because the electoral college is the only thing stopping the corrupt, constitutionally undefined political parties that have pirated control of state and federal governments from establishing a permanent puppet presidency that will unquestioningly sign unconstitutional taxing and spending bills into law.
I think blackmail is a big part of it. You have some Republicans who campaigned on being part of the Tea Party/MAGA movement yet as soon as they're sworn in Washington, they became part of the Swamp.
You never see the Democrats make any concessions.
Then it depends on the your definition of blackmail.
Here in WV we had a strong Tea Party Republican in my congressional district named McKinley. After a few (maybe 3 or 4) reelections he “grew” in office and moved left so far that he voted for Trump’s impeachment. He’s gone now. Was it bribery? Probably not directly but for “special deals” for the good people back home. Easy to rationalize, good for home guys\gals and very good for him, the schmoozing keeps him in campaign money and keeps him elected. Much of the budget is horse trades on “deals” for the “people back home”. Of course like I said earlier we are as much at fault as the professional politicians. A majority of voters in every state\congressional district want their time at the taxpayer trough.
We need these special budget vehicles declared unconstitutional. Even with a shutdown some high percentage of the government is functioning. (I think I read 60%!) I say a constitutional budget or across the board 10% - 15% cuts until there’s a real yearly budget.
Every day or so at FR I am reminded why I stopped voting, since 2016, in Congressional elections.
We the People are not in charge and haven’t been for a long time.
Yes to an Article V COS.
Where’s the list of the Republicans that voted for this sneaky and evil deal?
Like what? A bone?
