Rescuers scramble to save dozens including 20 construction workers after Baltimore's colossal Key Bridge collapsed when container ship crashed into it flinging 'multiple' cars and a semi-truck into the river amid fears of mass casualties

Rescue workers in Baltimore are working furiously in an attempt to save the lives of dozens of people who were plunged into the frigid waters of the Patapsco River when the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being hit by a container ship.

Initial reports indicate that at least a dozen cars hit the 47 degree water in addition to a 20 or so construction workers who were working on the bridge at the time. The workers were pouring concrete on to the bridge at the time of crash.

At the first press conference around 6:30 am, Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace could only confirm that two people were pulled from the water. One was unhurt, the other had to be rushed to a local hospital with 'serious injuries.'

Wallace said that workers are looking for 'upwards of seven' people but that the number of missing could change as the collapse is a 'very large incident.' The chief called the efforts a 'search and rescue' operation.

At the same press conference, the White House ruled out terrorism as relating to the cause of the crash.

The rescue effort incorporates Coast Guard ships, local police boats, Baltimore's Fire Department, volunteer fire departments from the surrounding areas as well as teams of divers as the desperate search for survivors goes on.

There appeared to be an explosion on the container ship as it collided with the bridge sending container and diesel flooding into the water. One of the vehicles that fell to the water was a tractor-trailer.

The ship involved is the 948 foot long Dali, a Singaporean-flagged container which could be seen on ship tracking websites positioned stationary under the bridge following the crash.

Apparently the ship lost power.

The issues with Ansar Allah in the Suez have shown us the games shipping companies play.
They use poor Asians to man the ships, while flying some BS flag to avoid taxes and regulations, while also getting US Naval protections.

I see at least 3-4 police vehicles (guessing) to monitor traffic (middle of the video) plus it looks like a lot of lit construction area on the left side of the video

yikes

prayers up for survivors

“So, now that THEY mention it, who is the Captain, where is he from, and frankly is he a muslim?”

The Captain would not be in control of the ship.

Instead, is most likely that a Maryland Harbor Master was at the helm.

Or was the ship’s pilot / navigator under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol?

How long until they blame it on Climate Change?
_

Well if climate change is causing the huge Gulf Stream to slow down plunging England into an Ice Age, it can surely change the direction of smaller currents in harbors like this increasing the risk of these types of events

According to Experts or something.

Under the influence of moronic incompetence.

Something is very wrong too, just bridges don’t collapse like that.

How fast was that ship going to make the whole bridge go down?

Who are our Free Republic Physics majors? Someone here tell me how this happened.

Listening to the talking heads discussing the age of this bridge.

Sounds like 50 years is considered quite old for a bridge.

Really?

Yes. Ramadan month is going on. But this ship was Dali owned and was heading to Sri Lanka (more liable to be buddhist).

“How long until they blame it on Climate Change?”

Rising sea levels caused the ship to hit the bridge. If we had the same sea level as 14,000 years ago, the ship would have been stuck in the mud at its dock and never would have gotten to the bridge. So climate change did in a way play a part (sarc).

Ship registered under Singapore flag. The ship was being guided by two local Baltimore harbor pilots.

During my days in the USN our ships brought on local pilots who took control entering and leaving the harbor. They had control of the ship whether it was Hong Kong or Sasebo.

The two local pilots should be able to tell us what happened.

All most all bridges are fragile structurally if you take out a main supporting member.

Not bridges fault - something planned to never happen. Never.

I have decades in structural experience and son is a Structural Engineer, PE, bridge designer of large bridges.

Supposedly, ship controls can be hacked and seized by bad actors.

Wouldn’t surprise me
