Zelenskiy says without US aid, Ukraine forces will have to retreat

(Reuters) - President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in an interview published on Friday that if Ukraine does not get promised U.S. military aid blocked by disputes in Congress, its forces will have to retreat "in small steps".

"If there is no U.S. support, it means that we have no air defence, no Patriot missiles, no jammers for electronic warfare, no 155-milimetre artillery rounds," Zelenskiy told the Washington Post.

"It means we will go back, retreat, step by step, in small steps," he said. "We are trying to find some way not to retreat."

Shortages of munitions, he said, meant "you have to do with less. How? Of course, to go back. Make the front line shorter. If it breaks, the Russians could go to the big cities."

Democratic President Joe Biden has urged the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives to endorse the military and financial aid package, but House Speaker Mike Johnson has held up the matter for months, citing domestic priorities.

” The US behavior has been disgraceful. “

Why did you think it would be different this time ? They always do this after pushing their “allies” into no win military conflicts.

Next stop, Taiwan.

The Taiwanese for their own sake need to wake up, wise up, cut the strings to the marionettist and make their best deal.

Same with Israel. They really need Israel First at this point. Instead of leaning on the weak reed.

Sounds like their will be no quick fixes this time, not just the distribution infrastructure like before. Ukraine better start making caves for the new stone age.

“Aid to Ukraine is a drop in the ocean compared to what is being spent on transfer payments in the US budget. “

Both Social Security and Medicare are over a trillion per year. The elderly need to tighten their belts so Ukraine and the MIC can continue to live large !

You just made my point. Aid to Ukraine is a rounding error compared to those two line items alone. Thank you.

EU can sacrifice to handle it.

Not our war!

The EU can cut out all their bragged about social programs and “free” health care that WE pay for by paying THEIR share of NATO costs. That should cover all Ukraine needs to keep on losing the demographically and economically hopeless invasion war. Sad all around.

We are faced with a White House that wants a war in Ukraine that must not end under any circumstances combined with a war in Israel that must end immediately regardless of the circumstances

That's one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read on Free Republic.

What "real" US interests are served by Russia destroying Ukraine, killing civilians, and continuing its attacks on its neighbors?

Please let us know.

Your tagline says it all - "less propaganda would be appreciated" - and then you post pro-Russian propaganda.

Are you really that dumb?

Not our war!

It will be the second Putin decides to grab a part of a NATO member nation. And then instead of us sending surplus military hardware to Ukraine that we are spending a lot of money to maintain, store and even dispose of, we'll be sending our kids to fight.

Isn't it better to just give or sell Ukraine the equipment to end Russia's adventure?

Doesn't it seem like a problem that a country run by a tyrant is busy destroying the civilian power grid of another nation?

Do you think that kind of thing is a good idea?

Would you be OK with it if some group of Islamic Terrorists decided to do that to the USA?

Unless NATO enters the war under a false flag, no reason to worry.

—> Isn’t it better to just give or sell Ukraine the equipment to end Russia’s adventure?

No. Europe can and should handle their backyard issues.
