She was never really a journalist. I remember when she was on WABC-770 AM in NYC. She was coming off from being a comedienne. She wasn't even funny then (35 years ago). There is a cetain type of New Yorker that finds Harridans funny, just like there are people who have "The Lockhorns" as their favorite comic strip. It has more to do with identifying with the characters. The same station had Lynn Samuels on, whom radio legend Bob Grant referred to as "The Fishwife". Samuels had 20 IQ points on Behar, and she had a lot more heart, even though her NY Fishwife accent was even worse than Behar's. ("I wuz boo-awn in Noo Yoo-awk, I wuz raized in Noo Yoo-awk, I never go anywhayer BUT Noo Yoo-awk. . . so this iz the way that I sowwwwnd.")
