Uri Berliner, the veteran NPR editor who accused the outlet of liberal bias earlier this month, announced his resignation on Wednesday.
NPR suspended Berliner after he criticized the public radio network in an op-ed and interview with The Free Press.
“I am resigning from NPR, a great American institution where I have worked for 25 years,” he wrote in his resignation, which he posted to X, formerly Twitter.
“I don’t support calls to defund NPR,” Berliner wrote. “I respect the integrity of my colleagues and wish for NPR to thrive and do important journalism. But I cannot work in a newsroom where I am disparaged by a new CEO whose divisive views confirm the very problems at NPR I cite in my Free Press essay.”
“We will fire anyone who says we don’t support freedom of speech”
Thou shalt not question the doctrine of the church.
“We will fire anyone who says we don’t support freedom of speech”
Well.....at least he didn’t end up like the Boeing whistle-blower in the Airport.....
As a publicly funded institution, aren’t they constrained by the 1st Amendment from punitive actions against dissent?
Will the Republicans defund NPR?
No. No they won’t.
Would the Democrats defund a conservative organization receiving taxpayer funding?
Yes. Yes they would.
“I don’t support calls to defund NPR,”
Shouda’ left that subject alone-thanks for nothing.
An Institution is only as good as those that run it. He left it because it has become so bad he cannot tolerate working there. However, he believes the U.S. taxpayer should continue to support this Leftest propaganda machine. If this is such a valued institution it should have no problem being support by its listeners and not with our tax money.
May these ranks swell all the way to November 2024.
Congress has been bringing in presidents of Universities to question them on anti-Israel/anti-Jew hateful language.
NPR is overdue to be questioned on their political bias, where the opinions of republicans/conservatives are not represented or allowed. NPR is a government supported
‘news’ outlet. Let’s get them in front of congress, immediately.
I suppose, but he plainly hasn’t realized the bankruptcy of the leftist mindset, though to give him credit he had the integrity (after 25 years!) to call out the unfairness of how it is presented. That’s more than you can say for the other vermin who make up the media
LOL
Hypocrisy is a hallmark of liberalism.
Great post!
NPR sent a couple of their Torpedoes to his office.
The just keep driving people out of these institutions, unless the only people remaining are those who can cite the dogma perfectly with a straight face.
Well then he's still a dumbass who hasn't learned a damned thing.
NPR should be denied public funding from here on.
They should have to make it just like conservative talk radio.
He should’ve let them fire him- he probably could’ve sued
