Two jurors, one too frightened to serve, excused from Trump hush money trial

Two jurors in the Donald Trump hush money trial were excused Thursday, one after telling the court she was too scared and intimidated to serve, as prosecutors renewed their request to hold Trump in criminal contempt over alleged gag order violations.

The first juror, one of seven initially chosen to serve on the case, told Merchan that she was too scared to proceed after her friends, family, and colleagues guessed that she had been chosen. Merchan has ruled that the panel will be anonymous to protect their safety and privacy.

The second juror was excused after prosecutors raised questions about a juror who Tuesday had called Trump “fascinating and mysterious” — after discovering a man with the same name was arrested for tearing down right-wing political posters in the ‘90s. The juror was later excused after a minutes-long sidebar inaudible to members of the media in the courtroom.

As jury selection continued Thursday morning, half of a new panel of prospective jurors — 48 of the 96 total people — said they could not be impartial towards the former president and were excused. As they left the courtroom, Trump turned his head to stare at them.

Usually NY juries are given Fridays off, in part so Orthodox Jews could take part. By switching to Friday they restrict Jews from participating because they can’t get home in time for Sabbath. Killed two birds with one stone, limits Trumps campaigning and cuts into jury group generally favorable toward Trump.

Trump is great he’s showing people that jurors are neither fair or unbiased and the system doesn’t want that narrative.

This is my understanding. The defendant is not required to be there.

I think this is discrimination.

Not in a felony criminal trial. That’s part of our right to confront and cross examine witnesses against us.

It most certainly is discrimination. I think their motive for changing date to Wednesday was to restrict Trump from campaigning but it most certainly made it almost impossible for Orthodox Jews from being part of jury.

As they left the courtroom, Trump turned his head to stare at them.

Are you kidding me? When people get up and move around in a room people typically do look up and see where they are going. This was actually reported as a detail?

I think POTUS will press to test on contempt arrest and force the upper courts to intervene…

If SLO JO can”win from the basement” then MAGA will beat the streets door to door for The Donald “ behind bars”

While they’ve been crying about Trump intimidating the jury, turns out the family and friends of the juror were the ones doing the intimidating.

“Tearing down political advertisements” becomes “propaganda” when the self-serving democrat judge asks whether “the propaganda came from the left or the right” eh?

So, if the advertisements that were destructively torn down were favoring a republican, would that make their destruction “legitimate protest” in the eyes of this hate-filled, foreign-born judge?

Why would the DA throw Trump a bone and get rid of a juror that turned out to be anti Trump that is a red flag to me the DA would only want someone off if they could favor Trump

My initial thought is that they were coached to make the claim of being intimidated so the judge would have an excuse to further limit Trump’s rights.

“Why would the DA throw Trump a bone and get rid of a juror that turned out to be anti Trump...?”

Because it’s grounds for a mistrial if he’s convicted. If he’s not convicted they cannot try him again. Double jeopardy.

If it turns out later that any juror lied or was otherwise disqualified to serve, it is grounds to start over, making it less likely to convict.

In other words, keeping that one juror alone would double Trump’s odds of being found not guilty.
