In a stunning interview Sunday morning on CNN, Rep. Tony Gonzales, a Republican congressman from Texas, accused fellow Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of having sex with underaged girls.
"It's my absolute honor to be in Congress, but I serve with some real scumbags," he said. "Look, Matt Gaetz, he paid minors to have sex with him at drug parties."
This comes just a few weeks after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy said something similar at an event at Georgetown Univeristy.
"I'll give you the truth why I'm not speaker," McCarthy said. "It's because one person, a member of Congress, wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old."
The Justice Department began its investigation into Gaetz in 2020 after his former friend Joel Greenberg told investigators that Gaetz paid a 17-year-old for sex and to travel across state lines with him.
Greenberg, who was also under investigation, pleaded guilty in 2021 to six federal charges, including sex trafficking of a minor.
The Justice Department ended up declining to bring charges against Gaetz due to credibility issues with witnesses.
But Gaetz was recently subpoenaed by the then-underage woman he was accused of having sex with.
His deposition in the case is currently scheduled for June.

Unlike other states, FL will replace Gaetz with a conservative republican if anything comes to this allegation.
This sort of thing will be one of the most dangerous things about AI. It can create very convincing fake evidence.

Society has a lot of things to think about. I was eighteen and started dating my wife, who was sixteen. When we got married, I was 19 and she was 17. Her dad had to sign the papers. But today they wouldn’t even let us date and we have been married almost fifty years. People say they believe in marriage and heterosexual relationships, then they pile up the qualifications.
As for Goetz, I’m beginning to think they are all scum and trash.
Dems want kids to take hormone blockers which will do a lot more damage than a 17 year old having consensual sex with an older person.

I hear you Tol, but even so, if 20% of the Republicans totally suck, that’s still an 80% chance of getting decent Republicans, and enough decent Republicans can simply OUTVOTE the sucky Republicans. If the Republicans, for example, had a 40 vote majority in the House, all the crap you see there wouldn’t be happening. Likewise if the Republicans had 58 Senators, as opposed to 51 Senators, all the crap and grandstanding over Gorsuch would not have have happened, his nomination would have sailed right through.

Keep it in your pants, people. If you are a Congressman, or intending to run for Congress, don’t have sex with somebody you have no intention of marrying.
My grandmother was married at 17 and already having kids , my grandfather was in his mid 20s . Though to be fair this was a real long time ago.
