This NYC Chicken Joint Employs Cashiers Zooming in From the Philippines — and Still Wants You to Tip!
New York Post ^ | Marie Pohl, Steve Janoski

Every cashier wants a tip these days — but what if they’re on the other side of the world?

A new restaurant chain in New York City is outsourcing staff to the Philippines, using screens with hostesses on Zoom calls instead of in-person employees to greet customers and help with check-out.

The shops — which specialize in fried chicken and ramen — are taking advantage of the massive wealth gap between New York City, where the minimum wage is $16 per hour and a Southeast Asian nation where hourly pay is closer to $3.75. But when customers check out at Sansan Chicken, Sansan Ramen, or Yaso Kitchen — with locations in Manhattan, Queens, and Jersey City — they’re still prompted to add a tip of up to 18% on top of their bill.

Such is the way of the Democrats.

Demand a minimum wage of $20/hour...then outsource the same job for $3.75/hour.

How do you spell hypocrisy?.....D E M O C R A T

Just wait until a single judge decides the labor is taking place in New York so NY wages (and taxes) must be paid.

The Filipino cashiers will eventually be replaced by AI/automation. Millennials are already used to ordering food on an app or kiosk. They’ll pay for it with their Universal Basic Income (UBI) Card, if their Social Credit Score is high enough.

The freaking local McDonald's kiosk station has the nerve to ask you if you want to "round up" the cost of your order to the next dollar.

Picture what Michael Douglas would do in his movie "FALLING DOWN". LOL!

just had an interesting thought...what If a typical American tripled the tip but only for the folks making SO much less and doing as good a job or better than their American counterpart? don’t like paying out to some other country but SOMEbody is deeply in need of some lesson learning. just my 2.

Some contracting jobs were paired with this black tech and we would stop over for lunch at diners and local eateries. He never tipped. A few trips went by, and I asked. His reply “blacks don’t tip” what? Really? He repeated “yeah, blacks don’t tip” I never really studied the subject, some probably do, nut he NEVER did.

I’ll tip a waiter or waitress who spends at least a half hour going back and forth from my table. Otherwise, forget it.

Well known in that business from what I can tell. Sometimes known as “Canadians” as a code word here in the SE. As in “I got that table of Canadians, I won’t be getting any tips there.”

I can see this: a remotely located, live cashier, could very easily catch on. The customer has a cheerful cashier to take their order and the cashier does not need to worry about some feral Ooga-Ooga throwing the cash register onto the cashiers head because somebody might have forgotten to pack some extra hot sauce. Win’win!

I will never, ever tip a cashier. They are already making good money. Waitresses usually make a very low hourly rate and live off their tips. However, a tip is still a reward for excellence. No excellence, smaller tip.

(My standards of excellence really run more toward competence.)

My wife and I went to one of the nicer establishments in town. I didn’t realize that my neighbor had gotten a new job until she came to wait on our table. Naturally she got a good tip. As we were leaving, a large 20-30 group of blacks were starting to eat. I found out later that their total tip for 25 people was just a little more than my tip for two.

He never tipped. A few trips went by, and I asked. His reply “blacks don’t tip” what?

I ran into this with a programming group that had a black woman member. Going out for meals with the group was a problem because the black woman wouldn't contribute towards a tip, she said she doesn't tip. The group stopped inviting her for joint lunches, and she quit within the year. I didn't run into this with black men, just with that black woman.
