Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday blasted House Speaker Mike Johnson and GOP lawmakers in Congress for handing President Joe Biden a win on foreign aid, especially in Ukraine, without wringing any new concessions from Democrats to secure America’s border.
Last weekend’s move by Johnson, said DeSantis, “was a real, real failure" that grossly betrayed GOP voters.
Many conservatives have leveled Johnson in recent days for going along with the $95 billion package that funded Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan — just as Biden and congressional Democrats wanted.
DeSantis ripped Johnson for forgetting the people who placed their faith in him and the rest of the GOP.
House Republicans “were sent there, and the No. 1 issue that our voters wanted them to address is the southern border and the massive influx of foreigners by the millions coming into this country,” said DeSantis.
“We don't know who these people (immigrants) are, and they (Republicans) basically just surrendered on the border,” he continued. “They now have no leverage to do anything on the border.”
The governor pointed out that Johnson and the GOP could have forced Biden to accept tougher border security measures in exchange for the aid for his cherished Ukraine and the others.
“I mean, it's just pathetic. I was really, really disappointed to see that they basically capitulated entirely on the border. And at this point, you're not gonna see anything done on the border for the rest of this year,” the governor added. “I think it was a real, real failure.”

At this point, the Republicans should fight to get tax caps in state and federal constitutions to protect the middle class.
It’s time to wall off the assets of the middle class.
Until about a year ago Ukraine was able to fight quite well.
The Russians have learned how to fight and Ukraine is going to have a tough time in the future.
Totally outrageous.
The obvious plan underway, is to start a civil war in the US. Put in place the most polarizing candidates on both sides. Import the mideast religious war. Make gestures towards securing the border but do nothing. Destroy faith in elections and government institutions. Last but certainly not least, bankrupt the country, and force the middle class to live on credit cards, and veterans to live homeless, while giving free money and housing to illegal aliens.
Yet, almost no politicians are trying to actually stop it. Crisis is good for business, when you're a politician.
I agree with Ron on this one. It would be nice if Trump said something other than “My Complete and Total Endorsement”. Trump could easily have said that now is not the time to vacate the chair but we will re-assess after the election. That would keep Johnson on warning.
Trump didn’t “endorse” Johnson. I believe he felt forced to kind of protect Johnson only because he did not want another ugly Speaker battle before the election.
I have no problem with criticism of a person if it is constructive and serves to make a candidate better. Even Trump. He is the candidate so you need to get used to it unless you love Biden so much that you wish to help him win because you feel petty and angry.
In this case, I would have flamed Johnson for his blatant betrayal and told Greene privately to not try get rid of Johnson until after the election because the damage is already done.
All this hogwash and DeSantis can do no wrong severe conservative claptrap is no different than what you accuse Trump supporters of. Clean up your own act before you accuse others of what you do.
He and his comrades need to be blasted out of Congress.
Who believed the Dim controlled Senate was going to go along with any border security measure passed by the GOP in the House? If you believed the Senate would compromise and give in to the GP in the House, under any circumstance, you were kidding yourself.
And what was the Ukraine aid in comparison to the trillions in new domestic spending programs of Biden?? A pittance, that’s what, a mere pittance.
So the populists in the GOP in the House rail and scream about the border, the border and a few billion for Ukraine, and how their willing to shut down the government if they have to, over the border. And which of them are willing to sa ve our grandchildren from the trillions in debt Biden is bequeathing to them, which is primarily debt arising from Biden’s TRILLIONS in new domestic spending and not any area of foreign aid. To concentrate on the latter and ignore the former is a matter of looking at the hole, not the donut.
Trump should have pushed for border security first. After all, national security is always the MOST important issue.
Johnson, with Trump’s endorsement, said loudly, clearly, and in no uncertain terms, that national security was NOT the most important issue and NOT number one Republican priority!
Sad.
The DeSantis campaign began its crash when Ron waffled on Ukraine after taking a meeting with the GOPe. This statement rings hollow in that context. I wish Trump had said it.

Sounds like an endorsement to me. I don’t know what else he could possibly do, other than use the actual word “endorse?”
And no one is saying that DeSantis is perfect, he is just another politician at the end of the day. But on most issues, he seems to be right. More importantly, he gets things actually done, rather than just talk or tweet about them all day and all night.
As far as the 100 Billion dollars we have sent to Ukraine, you have a point. That is a mere pittance, compared to what we will spend for the ASTRONOMICAL cost of a Ukranian “Marshall Plan”—for reconstruction and rebuilding Ukraine if they win, which they cannot.
Trump got things done as POTUS. Trump holds no office right now so trying to make a comparison like that doesn’t work. If Trump didn’t say “endorse”, then he didn’t endorse.
I say little about DeSantis as he does his job in Florida. If people are happy with it, so be it.
The GOP House Committee better not call me for $$$$. They will NOT like what they hear. My Congressrino? The same damn thing.
Trump got a few things done by executive order, but name something he did that any other Republican wouldn’t have. Sure he got started on the border, but didn’t finish it, or make Mexico pay for it either. Now, he doesn’t even ask for the Ukraine funding to be tied to it, anymore, which is DeSantis’s point.
No one else is even making this point, either. It’s not about the Ukraine funding, near as much as it’s about abandoning the leverage of that, to improve the US border. It was all thrown away in one fell swoop. Yet here you are attacking DeSantis for calling it out LOL.

Me? I'll vote for whomever wins the GOP nom, as I have done since the early 70s. Even if it's Mister Trump.
I would prefer a stronger candidate.
