GOP critics vow NO MORE U.S. aid for Ukraine

Conservative skeptics of funding the war in Ukraine predict the bill signed into law this week will be the last major U.S. aid package for Kyiv that passes.

The GOP critics of the package acknowledge that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) won this round of the debate by pushing $61 billion for Ukraine through Congress.

But they argue that if President Biden comes back with another request, he’ll go away empty-handed.

“If Ukraine thinks that it’s getting another $60 billion supplemental out of the United States Congress, there’s no way,” said Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), who led the opposition among Senate Republicans to pouring tens of billions of more dollars into the war effort.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan said Wednesday the new military aid package for Ukraine will last through the end of the year, raising the prospect that a new infusion of weapons and funding may be needed quickly in 2025.

That could make Ukraine’s war with Russia, and U.S. support for Kyiv, a major issue in the presidential race between Biden and former President Trump and in the battles for the House and Senate.

The presidential and House races are both considered toss-ups, while Republicans are widely seen as favorites to win the Senate majority, given a highly favorable map.

“So much of what happens next depends on the outcome of the November election,” said Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.).

Sullivan said Wednesday there’s a “deep reservoir” of support for Ukraine in both parties

BS. Closing the barn door after the horse got out. The $60 billion for Ukraine will be disbursed over years effectively tying Trump’s hands if he is re-elected. Before he left, Kerry said that no one would be able to undo what they had set up for the Green New Deal, aka the Inflation Reduction Act.

Republicans beat their chest, talk a tough game,,,,, especially when they know no one will hold their their feet held to the fire.

Their promises are worth exactly what we pay for them...NOTHING.

“The $60 billion for Ukraine will be disbursed over years effectively tying Trump’s hands if he is re-elected.”

Turns out it was already spent before they ever passed it.

fwiw as was pointed out here yesterday by someone else-

the bond market is pricing in quite a premium on the Ukraine 1yr-it is yielding 38% exp 3/25. The rest of their yield curve is around 15%.

Some folks believe that they will not be making good on those bonds.

The majority will be spent is the US to replenish our war reserves. Biden is promoting it as another stimulus.

Also included in the bill is that the US will seize the approximately $10 billion in frozen Russian assets and unprecedentedly give it to Ukraine. This is a very dangerous game that threatens the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

An angry and pathetic minority refused to read the bill, relying on KGB talking points, and are pissed that they rest of Congress acted responsibly.

Almost half of Russia’s GDP growth is the direct result of miliary materiel production because their materiel is being destroyed so systematically in the Ukraine war. They are down to using up tanks stored from WW2. Production is no doubt resulting in a fair amount of rake off by clever Russian oligarchs, and domestic production of almost every other thing is falling off as the rapidly diminishing work force leaves so many other activities for the higher salaries paid by the war machine’s production. This is not healthy for Russia’s future at all. Why worry so much about Democrat collusion when there are so many pro-Russian so-called conservative colluders right here at FR.

What a lot of the people don’t know is the likelihood that many business inerests are looking forward to all the reconstruction contracts that are likely to become available once the Russians throw in the towel and slink home. Much money to be made in rebuilding. Who will be making it? What was this about MTG making millions with Ukraine war insider trading?

“What was this about MTG making millions with Ukraine war insider trading?”

But Trailer Trash Barbie says that it’s her son’s stock portfolio.🙄

IMO, she’s an establishment plant courtesy of brian kemp and brad ratspermburger who’s there to give the left and anti-MAGA rinos sound bites to easily marginalize MAGA.

” once the Russians throw in the towel and slink home.”

You’re dreaming. More likely this will slog on until the election then Biden will throw Ukraine under the bus whether he wins or loses.

Almost half of Russia’s GDP growth is the direct result of miliary materiel production because their materiel is being destroyed so systematically in the Ukraine war.

I notice that you omitted that the lower US GDP is also mostly made up of government spending.

Quite selective of you to omit that.

You also omit Russian oil exports have hit record highs recently.

It is clear that you are blinded to the charade taking place and believe Biden that his tough sanctions are actually working.

Here is a link with a good graph showing US military expenses as percent of GDP over a number of years. Since 2017 it has hovered around 3% and more recently showed signs of moving slightly lower.

https://www.defense.gov/Multimedia/Photos/igphoto/2002099941/

Below is a detailed examination of the Russian GDP and budget over several recent pre and post war years up to the present. A few years ago GDP was at least 5% and then moved up to 6% with the start of the current war. However, this article also considers costs for intelligence, care of war wounded and related war expenses and estimate Russia’s actual GDP expense is around 10%

Sure, US military spending is not the problem. Look at domestic spending and stop omitting FACTS.
