Cal Poly Humboldt closes campus for rest of semester as anti-Israel protesters occupy buildings

California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt is closing its campus for the remainder of the semester as anti-Israel protesters continue their occupation of two academic buildings.

In a message posted Saturday, the university said a “hard closure” was being enforced, and that individuals were prohibited from entering or being on campus without permission.

Anyone who is on campus without permission is subject to citation or arrest, the university said.

“Students who live on campus in residence halls are presumed to have permission to remain in the limited area of the hall they live in and dining facilities,” the university wrote. “Until further updates, student residents do not have permission to be in other parts of campus.”

The university shuttered its entire campus late Monday in response to people occupying Siemens Hall and Nelson as part of broader protests sweeping college campuses nationwide in response to the Israel-Hamas war.

Protesters there have dubbed the occupation: “Intifada Hall.”

if these insurrectionists have enough staying power, maybe they can shut down this university permanently ... that would be a start!

There were quite a few people, including me, who ignored all the COVID protocols. I went to work every day with no mask, no social distancing. I didn’t put the stupid mask over my nose when I was in a store. If they told me too, I just said no thank you and kept going. So there are people out there.

This is absurd. What would they do if anti-Trans or Anti-abortion protestors were occupying buildings?

Why do terrorist symps get to restrict other students rights?

The Samoa Cookhouse used to have a great picnic table breakfast with a logging equipment display.

If they actually live in campus residences it poses a problem to evict them. Other renter rights laws may apply. So they are allowed to their residence. The rest of the campus is presumably “hard closed” which I gather is a first step. Anyone who breaks that may indeed get arrested. Yes I do see where these appears to be puffing up but it may be one step - if it works great if not then arrests for trespass and disorderly conduct. It’s just too bad all the students are now suffering at the hands of a few. Like all the Palestinians are now suffering at the hands of Hamas.

I still think the main problem is the lack of moral courage. Either there is nobody who knows what to say or nobody who has the courage to say it - or they simply don’t care lor like to see suffering and human sacrifice for ideology. The Palestinians have been failed by their own leaders for generations, since 1948 at least Arafat turned down the two state deal in 1999. Since 2005 Israel did not have any presence in Gaza. The Gazans are oppressed by their repressive government. They spent the last 20 years diverting humanitarian aid given them by worldwide donors to harden their positions for this war instead of creating a future for their people. The brutality of their Oct 7 attack exposes them for who they are and what they believe in, but worse than that it was just stupid and they had to know it would provoke a massive reaction that would harm their own civilian populations. They did it anyway. Anyone who is pro Hamas is pro-repression, pro-genocide, pro-war crimes, anti-progress and anti-peace. There is no choice left but to remove Hamas from the equation. But very few people are willing to come out and say it clearly and directly. A few have, ironically, Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi have come close.

Republicans are right too but they should not even bother talking about Oct 7th at this point because all it does is make people talk about “proportionality” etc. This is simpler than that. Hamas has to go. They are evil. They can go willingly or be escorted out. Their choice.

I doubt most the lazy professors at Humboldt even care. Less work for them.

I meant the police and administrators were strutting and trying to look like someone they thought was admirable for peace like the alleged and phony public image of Gandhi. But actually they were cowardly in not confronting the Leftists.

I hate Gandhi and he is one of my favorite whipping boys for the harm done by nonviolence.

Briefly from NPR (to show I’m open to the other side):

In 1903, when Gandhi was in South Africa, he wrote that white people there should be “the predominating race.” He also said black people “are troublesome, very dirty and live like animals.”
He thought in his 20s that Europeans are the most civilized. Indians were almost as civilized, and Africans were uncivilized,”
“He was also obsessed with his own celibacy. In his late 70s, before he died at 78, he slept naked with his grandniece when she was in her late teens. He said he wanted to test his willpower to abstain from sex.

Nowadays, most people would call that abuse. Some question whether the young female was capable of giving consent as a minor to a man who was so revered and so much more powerful than she.”
One quote: “He could have got us freedom way before’ if he had been willing to use violence.”
A drawback: “His absolute insistence on nonviolence, which young men see as pussyfooted and weak-kneed and — dare I say — feminine and hence not macho enough,” says Guha, the biographer.

A lot of good points and food for thought.
