Yes, for the most part, in order to perpetuate the illusion of political choice -- i.e., that the basketball game is "real" -- "conservatives"/Republicans have long taken the "Washington Generals" role.
And it's always worked like a charm, since (as the comments on this thread so far reveal in spades) the vast majority of self-identifying "conservatives" today are knuckle-dragging dimwits, just as easily lead around by the nose as those pink-haired liberal chicks they love to deride.
