I would make the claim that the Tea Party was the forerunner of MAGA. The actual "tea party" may be no more but it's principles live on through MAGA.
There's an argument to be made in favor of that position. I won't dispute it.
I nevertheless tend to believe that President Trump, himself, is irreplaceable to the movement - if even only as a figurehead.
I am not very sanguine about America's future generally and about conservatism in particular should President Trump ever be... excluded... from the stage. Sadly, I see no adequate successor to him.
Regards,
Fiscal stability, for example, was one of the linchpins of the Tea Party platform. Meanwhile, Joe Biden is the only person who will keep Donald Trump from being remembered as the most fiscally irresponsible president since World War II.
If I remember right, the Tea Party got splintered, and it wasn’t all by accident either. Once it rose to news-worthy prominence, there were a lot of people who wanted in on it. I think Glen Beck was one of the ones trying to insert himself. But there were leftist powers that moved in on the Tea Party movement because they actually wanted them to grow before the election and take votes away from republicans, so there were republicans calling for the Tea Party to become “conservative”. Thus splintered, and after being useful to various groups, discarded.
I don’t see anyone with the Charisma anywhere close to Trump to move in and fill the vacuum that Trump leaves whenever that happens (if democrats have their way, soon). I liked how DeSantis ran Florida but he does NOT have charisma.
I would root for Jim Jordan, but while he can take over a conversation with some authority in a wonky way (masculine, not pencil neck), he doesn’t seem like the type of guy that takes over a room like Trump does.
This is why I think democrats want Trump out of the way ASAP. They know, there is no one in the wings who can be ... well.... Trump
Absolutely !
You can change the name but the values still remain.
