Powell Made Secret Panama Trip - U.S. Official Went to Air Base Last Week

A Narco News Global Alert

Narco News Commentary: How is it that the most recognized United States official on earth can sneak in and out of Panama - and possibly, as today's story in the Panamá América newspaper reveals, was in Colombia, too - and not a word from the Washington reporters who cover the State Department, nor the U.S. correspondents in Latin America? And why was the trip made secretly, without alerting the press?

And why did the U.S. Embassy deny, once asked by the Panamanian press, that Powell was in Panama? What is known is that Powell was in Panama this week, and possibly in Colombia; that Washington speaks of peace in Colombia but plots for war; and that the U.S. government has been seeking an Air Base in a country near Colombia from which to wage a military intervention with the pretext of the "war on drugs."

That Powell's trip was made in secret speaks volumes about the true agenda of Washington. The "drug war" is about to go "boom."

The Colombian affair will turn out to be another Nicaragua. A dirty little war that will allow those in the right place to make hundreds of millions on the drug trafficking that will take place on the side.

Do you believe that Reagan's support for the Contras in Nicaragua was wrong?

I have no idea if Powell was in Panama or not. If he were, that's great. The US should not let our guard down in Latin America. Red China has already expanded their influence into Panama, Venezuela, and Cuba.

Financing the war in Nicaragua by the CIA and NSC selling billions of dollars of cocaine in the U.S. was more than wrong. It was evil. It produced the crack cocaine epidemic with a couple million addicts. The evil lives on today.

I can't believe that President Reagan didn't know what was going on, although it was Vice-President Bush, Oliver North and others who operated the drugs for arms for the Contras trade.

We don't need to send Powell to Panama to find us an airbase in south America. Did he fly in an SR 71 ?

I don't believe President Reagan, Vice-President Bush or Oliver North were involved in drug trafficing.

The war in Nicaragua was not about drugs, it was about stopping Soviet communism on the mainland of the Americas. Nicaragua was a stepping stone to El Salvador, Belize, Honduras, and Costa Rica. The threat was real.

If members of the US military or Reagan administration were involved in drug trafficing, they should be sent to jail. If it was a US policy, the scandal would be bigger than Iran-Contra, Watergate, and Monica Lewinsky combined. I don't believe the story. I don't believe that Ronald Reagan and George Bush were traitors.

Iran-Contra was just the tip of this iceberg. It was a classic "limited hangout" designed to limit damage and steer attention away from the much bigger potential scandal involved in the drugs for arms traffic.

You obviously don't comprehend the degreee of control over the press exercised by the government when the government itself is at stake.

Without a doubt, the Reagan Administration was involved in funneling arms to the Contras against the will of Congress. That doesn't mean they were involved in sending crack cocaine into the United States.

The press was mostly brutal in their reporting of Ronald Reagan. I don't believe for a second they would drop a story like this for someone that doesn't even have the same political views of most major news outlets.

I am willing to have an open mind, but not so open that my brain falls out. What has made you so convinced that the Reagan Administration was importing crack cocaine?

Read two items: The book "Comprimised" by Reed, and the Tatum Chronicles (available in the Orlin Grabbe website). There is plently of material on this subject from a variety of sources. But is HAS been kept out of the major media.

One of the reasons that the Democrats couldn't go after Reagan on this matter is that Bill Clinton and his Arkansas friends were getting a cut of the drug money for protecting the large part of the drug traffic that was using Mena, AK as its operational base.

The drugs for arms for the Contras matter was one of the several large scandals hushed up by the federal government in recent decades. Like the assassination of JFK, the cause of the crash of TWA 800, etc.

Who is the NSC? The National Security Council? I thinks you mean the NSA.

I did say the NSC. The Contra support effort was run by the NSC and its offshoots after the Boland amendment cut off federal funds for support of the Contras.

If I'm not mistaken, the NSC is made up of the intelligence heads of the CIA, FBI, NSA, and the 4 Services (each with their own intelligence and propaganda services).

If you mean by Nicaragua the controlling of a Communist guerrilla and ending the stream of refugees into the US, so be it!

This was posted by an expert on the US presence in Panama that runs the In Retrospect website:

Of course no U.S. correspondent (at least reputable ones) reported this story
(?) because it is NOT true. A source close to Secretary Powell told me few
days ago that the Secretary made no visit to Panama nor intends to do so. End
of story, regardless of what Panama America may think or report (read
speculate). As everyone probably knows by now, the Secretary is scheduled to
visit Colombia tomorrow after the short visit to Peru today to attend the OAS
meeting.
