Montgomery County, Maryland (most important DC area suburb, located on north/northwest border of the Nation's Capital):

Local police have issued "community alerts" and increased patrols.

Local schools closed 1 1/2 hours early (for no apparent good reason).

All federal government agencies closed around noon today.

Maryland state government neglecting West Nile Virus epidemic, which has spread to local citizens now.

Liberals, gun control freaks and other gun-haters wringing their hands while waiting for government (protection?) help.

Traffic is unusually light.

I'm headed out to run a few errands and do some shopping now...

Prince Georges County, MD:

Schools let out early.

Very heavy traffic around 1-2 p.m., apparently an early rush hour as malls, etc. are closing down.

Paxtuent Wildlife Preserve closed.

Saw one contrail in the sky at about 1 p.m. (military jet?)
