Very basically, the U.S. military wanted a weapon system that mates a conventional rifle with a 20mm "cannon" that is capable of delivering a special munition that can be user set to explode with an airburst at user determined and programmable ranges. What looks like an M16 underneath should give you pause to look closer. It is a variant of the HK G36K, with an M16 magazine adapter! This is something that HK promises for the conventional G36 series as well. The selector switch and the flash hider are the G36K variant giveaway. Proof once again that when the military needs something on the cutting edge, HK is the logical choice. A bargain price for the military? $10,000 to $12,000 each, and $25-$30 a pop for the 20mm ammunition. The military plans an initial order of 45,000 units, and for them to be fielded with special units by 2006. |

Somebody must have hired the prop master from the second Alien movie...but at least bin Laden doesn't bleed acid.
To: Texaggie79
Hmmm. I'll take two, please.

Is it available to us 2nd Amendment folks? I want one! What's the rate of fire? Effective range?

...to be in the field by 2006? I suspect that bin Laden has long since make his journey to HELL by that time.

This is the gun mentioned second, the one without shells.

One of the selling points about the G11 and caseless technology was its comparison to conventional weapon systems. For the German Bundeswehr, still fielding the G3, the comparison should be obvious. For American purposes the M16 was included for comparison, since the G11 was HK's entry into the Advanced Combat Rifle program in the early 1990s. The ACR program eventually ended with the U.S. government choosing improvements on the M16 system for the forseeable future. |

Prototypes should be used on bin-ladens head.

Ouch!

I think they had a lot of problems with the G11, but the FN P90 accomplishes some of the same things.

And empty tent or no empty tent, I suspect bin and his trusty henchmen are gonna be digging some of THESE out of THEIR butts soon:
To: Texaggie79
AAhhhh. Ain't it a thing of beauty. Thanks for the introduction.

Call me old-fashioned, but this thing looks like a cluster $%# waiting to happen.
No iron sites evident, they've added an electrical component to a chemical-mechanical device (increasing geometrically ways it can go wrong), still uses the lousy 5.56 mm round, and too heavy ...

I like the F11's relief from backfire. I would love to try it out.
Have you seen the video on their site?
To: Texaggie79
I have seen this written up many times before and I have the following questions:
Do you really think the extra weight of this weapon will be justified?
How long will the batteries hold up?
How will it handle EMP?
How will it handle mud, sand, water, snow and heat etc?
Will problems in its computer give a whole new meaning to Blue screen of death
I am old fashioned in my views on weapons so given the choice I will take an CAR15 with 40 mm greanade launcher. The only sound more frightening than boom when you expect to hear click is click when you really really want to hear boom.

According to the H&K site total system weight is EXACTLY the same as the M16 only twice the rounds available for combat. m16=200some rounds per soldier.H&K G11=500 some rounds.

While it isn't the real thing, you can download OICW addons for the video game Urban Ops. Again, it's not reality but I can tell you that we had to ban using the OICW in team play because of how powerful it is. Even w/o the 20mm explosive rounds, the gun is vicious (as it is modeled).
