FR Idea for MIA Bracelets Honoring WTC/DC/PA Patriots
self ^ | 9/20/01 | self

Posted on 09/20/2001 10:59:00 PM PDT by William_Rusher

After discussions from a previous thread concerning POW/MIA day on Sept. 21st, I bounced around the idea of finding engravers here at FR to come up with tribute bracelets in the POW/MIA tradition for the victims of the recent attacks on America. In no way do I mean to detract from the respect and honor due the POW/MIA issue.

I am looking to get the ball rolling on this quick.

FR should find a way to auction off the bracelets of the 5000+ victims of these attacks and send the money to the victim's survivor's funds.

We need a source of supply for the bracelets, probably available from POW/MIA sources.

We need a slogan for all the bracelets, a standard phrase or maybe something from the Presidents speech tonight.

We also need engravers.

I am open to suggestions my friends. Help us get this started and help us follow through to completion this fund raising effort. Surely we have the resources at our disposal as a group to make this happen.

We need folks to keep this bumped to the top (bttt)

And last but not least,

"LET'S ROLL"

We need to get the effort under way (actual manufacturing and distribution in place, if not up and running). Once we do so and have details available (how to get them, what they are, how much they cost, the specific charity, expected money raised, maybe even a website to serve as the "storefront") I can write the press release and service it to the pertinent national media.

The press won't bite for just a "plan" - but if the machinery is in place it should be no problem to get national and regional coverage.

I will freepmail you with some contact info.

A personal story about a bracelet. A few years ago, I finally joined the V.F.W. During the Veteran's day activities a few years ago the bartender "Lisa", told me how she still had her POW bracelet and asked, since I had a computer if I'd look up "her" POW, and find out if he had made it.

I said sure, let me see the name. As soon as I saw the name, I said, Yeah, he made it back. I then told her that "her" POW was from our community, Lancaster Ca. I also told her that we (the community) bought him a brand new corvette when he came home. The POW I'm talking about is David Rehman, sat in the back of an F-4 phantom, shot down in November 1966. For those old enough to remember the bracelets, HE was the POW whose picture appeared on the matchbooks that were used to sell the bracelets. He truly is an AMERICAN HERO, and I (not a hero) had the privledge of having dinner with him when he first came home. We bought him his car with the proceeds of selling bumper stickers that said "WELCOME HOME DAVID REHMAN". Upon receiving the keys to his new car, he turned and asked who he could thank, was told that as he drove the the community and saw "his" bumper stickerk, that was who to thank. The guy that started the committee that made this wonderous event happen was a doctor, Dr. Mirsner. Semper Fi my friends

That's a good idea I thought of too. If they sell them, they will make money for the victims, and that's a cinch, especially if the beneficiaries are a trusted and legit outfit, not some bunch of jerks with a political agenda like The "United (militant homosexual agenda) Way".

There was a fire department in NY that already started a bracelet program. I'm not sure if it was only firemen or not.
