NYFD Battalion Chief John Moran (Freeper BCM) Perishes In World Trade Center
NY Daily News ^

Posted on 10/04/2001 1:22:45 PM PDT by AppyPappy

The bone-chilling wail of bagpipe playing "Amazing Grace" echoed through a Queens church yesterday as yet another fallen firefighter from the World Trade Center tragedy was memorialized in death.

It was yet another day — of many more to come — for Masses and memorial services for both heroic rescue workers and innocent civilians lost in the flames and collapsing towers.

At the memorial Mass for 49th Battalion Chief John Moran, his younger brother, Firefighter Michael Moran of Ladder 3, recalled how he spoke to his brother by cell phone after the second plane crashed into the Trade Center.

"I told him to be careful," the younger Moran told mourners, including his brother's wife, Kim, and two sons, Ryan, 7, and Dylan, 4. "I didn't see him there that day, but now I see him all the time."

The memorial Mass at St. Francis de Sales Church in Belle Harbor, Queens, was conducted by the fallen firefighter's uncle, Father Paul Moran, who called his 42-year-old nephew's last assignment a "mission of love, to save life, not destroy it."

Mayor Giuliani called for a standing ovation for the 20-year fire veteran, who held a law degree from Fordham University and was injured in the Father's Day explosion at an Astoria hardware store that killed three firefighters.

The mayor said while Moran's two young sons may not fully comprehend all that's happened, "The thing I want them to understand for their entire life is that their father is a great man."

It is believed that John Moran is BMC. We have a picture from a freep Posted Here. Here is his Fire Dept Memorial http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/f dny/html/memorial/wtc/moran_jo hn_bc_bat049.html. Here is a google search of his postsHere

This was the best time I've ever had in the pouring rain! I was shouting so hard that I can hardly speak today. While the chants were great and certainly got people's attention, I personally loved it when we sang "America the Beautiful" and "God Bless America." I think that really stopped people in their tracks (and completely confounded the liberals).

Hundreds Attend John Moran Street Naming

City Councilman Joe Addabbo, hosted a renaming ceremony in the memory of FDNY Chief John Moran, who died in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. A portion of the Boardwalk at Beach 118 Street was re-named Chief John Moran Way in honor of the slain chief. Pictured, Addabbo presents a copy of the new street sign to Moran’s mother, Margaret Moran.

Moran’s wife, Kim, stifles a cry as the sign is revealed. Her two sons, Ryan and Dylan are with her.

Moran’s brother, Firefighter Mike Moran, made national news when, on national television, he told Osama binLaden to “kiss my royal Irish ass.”

Moran’s sister, Ellen talked about her brother and how much he loved Rockaway and Beach 118 Street. “He was brought up here and he chose to bring his kids up here as well,” she said.

Neighbors look at pictures of Moran’s life posted in front of his Beach 118 Street home.

The new street signs designating the street as “Chief John Moran Way”.

Firefighters from Ladder 137/Engine 238 present the colors.

Ryan Moran, the slain chief’s older son, looks up as he raised the American Flag to half-staff over Beach 118 Street and the Boardwalk.

Seven years later, and there are some suggesting that we need “to get over it.”

I, for one, will never “get over it.” I will always remember this day.

God Bless you, Chief Moran. And God Bless all your fellow fire fighters and police officers - those men and women that go running in while we go running out.

We miss you.

I remember visiting the Pentagon early in the reconstruction after 9/11. There was a small tree planted across from the damaged part of the Pentagon, and a make-shift memorial/shrine had been set up there. I recall seeing something for BCM, and something for Barbara Olsen. I figure some Freeper had put those there. BCM, as well as the rest of those people, will never be forgotten.

The ceremony at the Firemens' Memorial was beautiful this morning. They seem to somehow have gotten a piano onto that thing, so it was not all bagpipes all the time, as in previous years.

Another change I noticed is that they have dropped the "firefighter" PC nonsense and started calling them firemen again.

The part I like best is when they start leaving in bunches and go back to being their usual cheerful, jokey selves again. They are beautiful.

Woke up thinking of BCM and other first responders who gave their lives 8 years ago today. My prayers are with them and their families.

I am cross posting this from a 9/11 rememberence thread.....

RIP freeper BCM...aka Battlion Chief Mike Moran NYFD. You and other freepers may know him by his brother who was the man who told Hillary to kiss his royal Irish ass at the memorial event.

I will always remember flying about a month after 9/11, Standing in front of the ticket counter early in the morning at sea tac airport.

As I’m standing at the counter I can feel the floor rumbling and shaking because the luggage trams are running beneath the ticket counter.

It is actually shaking me up-and-down and at that exact moment the public address system begins paging “Mike Moran pick up the courtesy phone.”

I got choked up and almost lost it because it felt like God was sending me a message.

The ticket agent was looking at her computer monitor and asked me if I had a seat preference just seconds aftet this.

My reply was related to the fear we all had that 9/11 could happen again which is why I said “wherever I can be of most use.”

She looked up at me, digested that statement while staring at a broad shouldered fit man, and placed me in the first row behind 1st class, on the aisle.

This was before I became a police officer but still had that Do Your Duty mindset.

Rest In Peace BCM and thank you for your service and sacrifice.
