>>`This is an ideal moment to be inserting economic justice concerns into the rebuilding conversation.'' <<

This is an ideal moment to be inserting illegal aliens into flat-bottomed boats for the long ride home.

My husband is a programmer and has not been able to find a job for over 3 months. He didn't want to file unemployment as he believes it to be a give-away program. He was forced to file yesterday and is eligible for the max, 238.00 wkly When I read the illegal made 450.00-500.00 per week plus a shre of the tips as a busboy,It was sad that my husband was an out of work American citizen. He lost his job to the H1B visa folks, that's another thing we should deal with as a country. Starting with congress who increased the program recently!

A person does not have to be a US citizen to open a bank account in the US....they just have to be in the country legally. The illegals didn't have any documentation, and especially no SSN.

Before anyone goes off on the SSN argument, let me say I understand both, (all) sides of that argument. But the fact is, if I, as a native born US citizen, want to open a bank account, I have to provide a tax id #, either my personal SSN or a business tax id #. All I am saying is that the illegals should have to at least do the same.

Also, I realize your comments come from the draconian federal snooping into our private financial affairs. And I don't like the "Know Your Customer" rules any more than you do.

I am just saying to me this is a bright, clear, line. If you are in the country legally, you have certain rights. If you are not in the country legally, you should leave, either by your own choice or by deportation.

We are on the same side.

My first sentance was in direct referance to the quote. The second was a more general comment, meant to the overall tone of the article. It wasn't aimed at the one person quoted.

The only hope we have is to get all of the illegals out..which would include anyone we find who has "overstayed" their visa.

I agree.

For the earliest Americans, there was not a country, no gas stations, no Burger Kings, no 7/11's to stand in front of looking for work. They were perhaps the lucky ones. They got here first.

Mine got here before the Revolution, when you had to take a trip on a sailing ship for several weeks (might or might not survive that), then they moved to the wilderness and carved civilization from it, and fought the British to gain liberty. Nice work if you can get it, I suppose.

. I suggest we give them a hot meal, deportation papers and send them "home"......that's gracious, compassionate, conservatism in action.

Excellent idea. Why didn't I think of that? BTW, thanks for the ping later (ESP) Zip

okay, let me try one more time....this thread is about illegals, especially illegals in NY trying to get their hands on the relief funds from 9/11

it is not about the banking laws, as aggregious as you and I both think they are, and I apologize for ever bringing it up

BUT, my point was, and is, instead of making it extra easy for them to stay....when the program is by definition for people who are here illegally, why not deport them instead?

It is not about whether the banking laws should be the way they are, I agree they shouldn't

It is if they are here illegally.....they are here illegally...end of story, kick them out.

I hope that makes my position clear...said with caring, love, and respect...:)

NOT.... My ancestors, like the vast majority of aliens prior to 1950 contacted the United States embassy, waited their turn in line ( for up to 5 years), enetered legally through Ellis Island, found work for themselves, applied for citizenship, studied English for two years to pass the citizenship test and then "settled in" several years later after being granted citizenship.

The phenomena of the massive, illegal, immigration is within the time of my memory span, within the last 40 years, within the time span of the post FDR Democratic congresses that just ended in 1992.

Deport them. Let Americans wash their own dishes and mow their own lawns. It won't kill us - but political correctness will.

Minor point. EMPLOYERS PAY 100 PERCENT OF UNEMPLOYMENT TAXES. 100 % as in TOTAL, ALL, EVERY BIT. They pay for the Unemplyment checks AND ALL ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS.

This is so sad. I'm almost to tears. This man may have to go back to Mexico if he doesn't find work in 3 months. Oh, the humanity.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear: I do think the government should deport all the illegal aliens. Given the circumstances since Sept. 11, they probably should deport a few of the LEGAL ones too.

And maybe, if some of the "powers that be" have to start mowing their own grass & get tired of it, they'll repeal some of the social programs, and some of those folks who've been living off the taxpayer dollar will have to re-develop a work ethic.
