Taliban Detains 100 People for Questioning, Reportedly Threatens to Execute U.S.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Afghanistan's Taliban rulers have detained more than 100 people in the southern city of Kandahar and threatened to execute anyone helping the United States, a private news agency reported Wednesday. "As per Mullah (Mohammed) Omar's decree, anyone found working for enemies will be executed after a summary trial," the South Asian Dispatch Agency quoted Mullah Abdul Razzak, an official of the Taliban interior ministry, as saying.

On Wednesday, Taliban soldiers armed with rocket launchers and Kalashnikov rifles drove pickup trucks through the deserted and bomb-battered streets of Kandahar - headquarters of their religious movement. The soldiers stopped vehicles for spot checks and questioned passengers, the news agency said.

"We have detained more than 100 suspects," Razzak told the agency. "They are being interrogated to ascertain that they are not involved in activities that could affect the Taliban during wartime."

More than half of the 500,000 residents of Kandahar reportedly have fled to escape the U.S.-led bombing that began Oct. 7.

Taliban soldiers are visiting residential neighborhoods, ordering people to report to armories to pick up weapons to fight the Americans, the agency said. The Taliban disarmed the Afghan population soon after seizing power in 1996 in attempt to restore peace in the war-ravaged country.

President Bush ordered the attacks on Afghanistan after the Taliban refused to hand over Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

"The Taliban disarmed the Afghan population soon after seizing power in 1996 in attempt to restore peace in the war-ravaged country."

Always a good step for tyrants to take.

BTW, once they've killed the people they want to kill, they'll say these people were killed by US bombs. If they don't already have their required ZZTop beards, the Taliban will glue them on before displaying them to AL Jazeera, et al.

Sounds like the quiet war is having some effect after all. Re-arming the remaining citizens isn't likely to make much difference against the rangers--but it could shorten some Taliban lives by a few days.

If you listen to some sources (including Fox News tonight) the Taliban's morale is higher than ever. This report makes me doubt that.

We can make them kill each other.

It won't be much longer before they will have us doing the same to ourselves.

The Taliban are professional killers, when they are unable to kill the enemy, they kill their women, when they run out of women to kill, they kill each other. This is what they do, we are just speeding things up a bit. The Cowardly Osama bin Laden will hide in his cave while he witnesses all of the Taliban diaper heads expire right before his eyes, and then we will kill him.

It's a beautiful story isn't it? kind of reminds me of one of those Hallmark Moments! how about you?

Speaking of executions, has anybody heard or seen anything about the eight western missionaries who were to be tried when the assults began?

In this part of the world, gunsmithing is a generational thing. I've seen very good copies of the Lee-Enfield .303 and any number of Stens and Sterlings come out of dirt floored workshops.

Taliban math:

3 people equals 100 people.

Sure...they did it to restore peace.

HORSEFEATHERS!

They did it to eliminate any opposition.

I expecting to hear as early as tomorrow stories about FAE or/and cluster bombs. The NA is wating for something 'big' to happen right now, FOX.

Only 37? I thought they were promised 72?

I guess it's getting harder to find virgins these days, even over there.

Or is it that Allah-ville is experienceing a serious crunch in the "social services" department? Do you know if they're handing out vouchers for when they catch up?

Whatever the case, this can't be helping morale.
