What if you could only have ONE pistol and ONE rifle AND they had to use the same ammo? What would be the favorites then? This is a genuine question because I'm thinking about making a purchase like this.

LOL..........
For the ultimate in PC, you may want to keep your shotgun at the local gun-buy-back program warehouse, just in case the urge to go on a VRWC-induced killing spree washes over you.
Then, you will be assured of being safe, and besides, you might just get a $50 bill, and some free condoms.

This is a genuine question because I'm thinking about making a purchase like this. A serious question. I would go with a standard .45 and one of the (sadly discontinued) Marlin Camp carbines. They use the same ammo and magazines. (If memory serves)

I've thought of that too. Combo favorites of mine are a Winchester rifle in 45 LC and a Ruger Blackhawk in the same caliber.

It is of very high quality, and it has a 8 round magazine.Weight: 3.9 lbs (1.75 kg)

" poodle shooting round."? LOL. I like that, even if I did used to have a poodle.

A good consideration is a 9mm High capacity semi auto pistol and a Ruger Camp 9, semi auto carbine (I believe they are still available).
I've never shot the Camp 9, but I have heard good things.
That is if you cannot get your hands on a .45 auto, and a Thompson SMG (requires Class III FFL).

Good gun. Can kill peoples or critters and everything in between. Can change chokes depending on your needs.

You said:
"..., just in case the urge to go on a VRWC-induced killing spree washes over you..." As long as the gun is locked in the (lead-lined) safe, I'm immune to it's evil death-rays (tm).

Check out the Guns America Website (www.gunsamerica.com), there are a number of rifles, handguns, etc. from dealers and private individuals, they have a collection of the 9mm Rugers and other type rifles, handguns, and shotguns.
The Ruger 9mm carbines are in the $500-$600 range.

BFG9000 indeed!
Uses "ammo" too quickly. I liked the 12 gauge best even when I had a BFG9000, but it did take some lurking around to use it right.
To: Doctor Freeze
"Just curious... what brand 12 gauge do you have?"
My daddy's Winchester Model 12... still rock solid... ...as far as the best 12 gauges??? Lots of good choices. I'd like one of each.

See #108 and add a Lever action Marlin.
If a long gun is in order and matching cal. doesn't matter...
Savage 10FP .308 (Bull Barrel, matte black, police model, with synthetic stock and free floating barrel). Leopold VariX III 3.5-10 mil-dot optics. Harris 6-9 bipod.

I'm surprised that no one in here mentioned Wildey pistols - chambered in .475 Wildey Mag. Makes that Desert Eagle .50 look like a .22. Personally, I'll keep my FN/FAL G Series. Here's the Wildey though:
