Another vote for the 12 ga. pump, since you're limiting yourself to one gun. Key factor is the variety of the available ammunition.

Concur. A 12-gauge can shoot anything from birdies and squirrels (yum!) to people and deer. Not too long-range, so you'll have to stalk, but probably the best all-around choice if, heaven forbid, you're restricted to one gun.

That, or a BFG9000. I really want a BFG9000, but it tends to scorch the meat...

Here's another vote for the 12 gauge. In my case, a Winchester 1300 Defender, with sights and a pump grip light.
