SORKIN CHARGES: 'BLACKLIST' IS 'HAPPENING ALL OVER AGAIN' Fri Oct 26 2001 20:55:12 ET
Hollywood wunderkind Aaron Sorkin says America's surge in patriotism has a dark side: It has unleashed a "Blacklist" against those who decent!
"It's happening all over again," the WEST WING creatorexecutiveproducerwriter said this week in Los Angeles during a jam session "Post Terror America: Hollywood Reacts" at the Occidental Policy Forum.
Sorkin: "What is important is dissent... Bill Maher has been getting a pounding because on his television program he said something that some found controversial. It was a conservative talk show host in Houston that got the ball rolling down the mountain, and then sponsors began removing their advertising from the show, and now ABC, the network that hes on, is saying that they may not do the show. Weve heard this song before, right? In the fifties there was a blacklist, and it ruined lives. If youre anything like me, when you watch any of the dozens of films that have been made about the blacklist, you look at that and think, my God, if I could only transport myself back in time to this period and knock a couple of heads together and say, are you out of your mind?"
Sorkin continued: "Well, were there, right now. Its happening all over again. I think its right now when its most important that there be dissent. When the patriotism police should be kept at bay and that people understand that Bill Maher is every bit as much an American as you or I and lets remember the values that we are protecting in the first place. My feeling is that those us who arent going to be driving the tanks in Afghanistan really what we can do for the war effort is to make sure that if you dont like what Bill Maher has to say, change the channel. Write him a letter. But he shouldnt be taken off the air. White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer should not get up and say Americans need to watch what they say..."

Is this idiot on mushrooms again? These Hollywood types sure love to develop persecution mania, makes them seem important when no one else gives a damn.

He's just mad because firemen are more famous than President Martin Sheen and you cant make a buck off of that.

Sorkin is a big time Dem and recenrly arrested druggie. His West Wing show portrays America as weak and apoligetic.
Dear Mr. Sorkin,
Up yours with gauze.
Sincerely,
The parents, widows and children of 6,000 dead Americans.

Blacklists! Censorship! Oppression!
Does this mean we won't hear from people like Streisand and Fonda?

Sorkin is just upset that the anthrax scare is slowing his supply of the other white powder.

Guess Sorkin forgot that the NOW nags forced Florida Orange Juice Association to stop advertising on Rush. Talk about tunnel vision. It only matters if HE feels threatened.

Sounds as though this little queer wants to be blacklisted along with Maher. Maybe he needs to do another couple of lines and get over himself.

And, won't we all just love it. You left out Martin Sheen.

As if Hollywood hasn't been blacklisting Republicans and conservatives for years.

Its okay for the liberals to do this to people they don't like, like Dr. Laura. And...the 50s McCarthy-ism is not at all comparable. You don't get hauled into court for saying someone is a coward. You don't get hauled into court for being anti war. McCarthy-ism was wrong...and not the same thing.

Dissent all you want... just don't expect to be rewarded for it... most of us don't want to do business with traitors

Sorkin, you putz,...YOU GOT THAT RIGHT...it was Dan Patrick of KSEV who put out the call and people in America responded!! And you better hold onto your hat, cause he and the rest of us ARE NOT FINISHED. You and the rest of Hollywood just keep mouthing off the way y'all cant help doing and the REAL Americans will make certain it is the most devastating blacklist you have ever seen.
