Actually, the miniseries is very true to the book (and to Webster's book, Parachute Infantry which is not really being credited) and in many cases fleshes out some incidents with more detail than was available in 1990-1992. There have been a few dramatic licenses, but not many. These guys were not saints, but tough combat soldiers.

DVD release is scheduled for Christmas timeframe, I heard many months ago, but I have not been able to find any info on it.
