November 11, 2001 -- A Long Island fire department's vehicle was stolen yesterday - and the FBI is keeping a close watch in the wake of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, officials said.
The red 1994 Ford Explorer disappeared from the driveway of a Baldwin Fire Department's supervisors' home sometime between 4 and 6 a.m.

Oh my gosh....they're starting their own airline and airport!!! Emergency vehicle for the Supervisor of Flying, De-icer for those bad winter storms, crop duster as a starter plane, uniforms for the pilots, BDU's for security forces, cockpit key when they move up, and a truck for an aircraft tug...
Hey, that's MY dog.

Fine. I'd love to tell Alec that he is a scumbag and I'm willing to give my real e-mail address.
Sounds like a few people had something to say about Alec's scumbag behavior. He wants his website to be visited by adoring fans that tell him how wonderful he is. It was a real belly drop for Alec when he found out how many people think that he is a complete dork.
Also rather easy to spot, don't you think?
Especially if a "Baldwin Volunteer Fire Department" vehicle is seen headed for the City of New York, where they don't normally operate.
I doubt that sophisticated terrorists would use a vehicle that is so readily identifiable.
It's just a souped up 1994 Ford explorer with lights, not a full-sized firetruck. Might as well steal a souped up truck in the inner city that's less conspicuous if terrorism is your aim.
How long would a paint job take to dry, anyway?
I think the general idea, ie: terrorists stealing official vehicles, is to have an official vehicle, that could penetrate security, and get close to a "target".
If you're going to paint it over, why not just steal a civilian, green one to begin with?
That's nuttin'... I just saw Godzilla destroy Tokyo on TV. He is definetly a threat to be taken seriously. Jets and tanks didn't even slow that dude up! Yikes!
Baldwin Fire Chief SUV missing (11/10/01) BALDWIN - An official vehicle from the Baldwin Fire Department is missing and investigators from the police and FBI have been notified. The supervisor's car contained firefighting gear, medical equipment, scanners and a two-way radio.
The truck is described as a red 4-door Ford Explorer and its plates read Operations Baldwin, New York. The truck is adorned with a chief's shield on both sides.
Officials are concerned that someone may use the car to try to impersonate a firefighter.
I will keep up with the local news and let you know if I hear anything more.
Were one to wish to actually try to infiltrate the enhanced security around our major buildings and/or landmarks, it would behoove one to have an authentically official appearing vehicle, and it would help were it filled with actual equipment typically found in such a vehicle. (Not just any SUV, not just a fake facade.)
I have read that the "suitcase nukes" are actually more around the size of steamer trunks, and that an SUV would easily transport such a bomb.
