there are numerous reports of a wing separation. the last time this happened as the result of plain old mechanical failure was the mainspar problem with the lockheed electra in the early 1960s. highly unlikely with an airbus.

The only going for this crash is the fact that the government is desparate to call it a isolated incident. The plane barely hit the ground before they were sure their were no terrorists involved. The economy just cannot stand another terrorist attack right now.
