MAYANS, WITH SUPER-ACCURATE CALENDAR, PREDICTED END OF WORLD DECEMBER 22, 2012
www.religioustolerance.org | 18 November 2001

2012-DEC-22: The Mayan calendar expressed a date in the form: 6.19.18.1.5 This means:

6 Baktun, an interval of 144,000 days,

19 Katun (generations) of 7200 days,

18 Tun (years) of 360 days,

1 Uinal (month) of 20 days,

5 Kin (days)

for a total of 1,007,305 days. J. Eric Thompson determined that the first day of their calendar (0.0.0.0.0) was on 3114-AUG-11 BCE according to the Gregorian calendar. 5 This was when they believed that Venus was born. Another source says that this happened on AUG-13 of the same year. Mayans also had a "Great Cycle of the Long Count" of 13 Baktuns or 5,125.36 years. Many interpreters believe that the Mayans expected that the universe would last exactly that length of time. That is, they anticipated the end of the world at the 2012-DEC-21 or 13.0.0.0.0 in their notation. 6 John Jenkins has determined that on this date, there will be "an extremely close conjunction of the winter solstice sun with the crossing point of Galactic Equator and the ecliptic." This is an event that will not be repeated for thousands of years. Author Carl Johan Calleman disagrees that the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world. He writes that "the Mayan calendar is about the progress of evolution, not about the end of the world."

All of the end-of-the-world fanatics are starting to come out of the woodwork. The Mayans had a calendar which was accurate to 33 seconds over the last 1500 years (.022 seconds off per year). And, they predicted the end of the world on December 22, 2012. They will be found to be wrong, AND, I can safely say that the world will probably not end before that time.

Reason? Jesus in the New Testament says NO ONE knows when the end of the world will occur except for God. So, it's not going to end when the Mayans said it would and it will more than likely not end before so people can see that they were wrong and have one more chance to repent.

My understanding is not that it predicts the end of the world but rather it does not cover the future beyond that date.

The super accurate Mayans ended. Period. End of one of the most vicious forms of human debris. Thank G-d they are gone. The depravity of these people was almost beyond belief.

Pizarro conquered the Incas in Peru starting around 1532 A.D. He and 168 men with a few horses and cannon caught them (from previously gathered intelligence -- all great conquerors usually do their homework) in the middle of a civil war where Atahualpa killed his brother to take control of the kingdom.

Of the Mayans downfall no one knows. The cities were left intact (Tikal, Chichen Itza, Palenque, etc.) and the people simply walked away. Scholars still do NOT definitively know why. Mayans were long gone as a civilization before any of the Spaniards arrived (Cortez in 1519 A.D.) Mayan civilization peaked around 750 A.D. and then was quickly gone around 800 A.D., over seven hundred years before the filthy Spanish set foot in the new world.

You are so right. A lot of people do not know. Self-mutilation and incredible amounts of human sacrifice. To a much greater degree than the Aztecs, they tortured their prisoners before sacrificing them. Also, the Mayans were in to genital self-mutilation and blood-letting among the ruling elites. It was a test of their loyalty to the gods and the people.

Perhaps a bit more blood-letting and genital mutilation would be in order for some our present day politicians to prove their dedication to the betterment of the nation. Might leave us with less unsavory characters. LOL!!!

How do you think history will remember America and the millions sacrificed on the abortionists table?

"He writes that "the Mayan calendar is about the progress of evolution, not about the end of the world.""

Christians believe the world will end, but the ending of this one and the beginning of the new one will come after the 1,000 years reign of Christ on earth. The date indicated may or may not indicate a radical change in this world.

If you are talking about their practice of human sacrifice, perhaps, you should not get started in a discussion on abortion in this nation.

Gee. That's like eleven years away. Does the Mayan calendar say whether Buffy will still be on the air then?

Pizzaro, Cortez, I probably knew that. But the key to humor and telling a good joke is timing and not necessarily accuracy.

I happened to catch the Miss Cleo skit on Mad TV Saturday (paraphrasing):

Caller: "you the lady that sees the future?"
Miss Cleo: "yass. ask me now!"
Caller: "was you workin' on September 10th?"

"you didn't see nothin' looked kinda funny comin' up?"

I have a couple of watches that keep pretty darn good time, but neither makes accurate predictions. ;)

To the best of my knowledge, they never kidnapped planes. Local customs do vary.
