Store owner scares off suspected robbers
Two men walked into a Van Buren Township party store last night for the third time in the last two months. The last two times, they robbed it. This time, they fled when the owner fired a gun at them.
Police Detective Sgt. Dennis Brooks said the men were carrying a handgun the last time they robbed the Trakpaccq party store on Rawsonville Road. At 7p.m. Wednesday, they were carrying a rifle.
But when they yelled at the owner to open the register, the owner pulled a handgun and fired a shot. The men fled to a vehicle in the parking lot without returning fire.
A videotape of the incident indicated the men were wearing plaid jackets, hoods and masks, and appear to be the same men who robbed the store recently. The store owner's gun is registered, and he has a concealed weapon permit, Brooks said.
No one was injured.

A good reason why passing CCW in Michigan was the right thing to do.

FYI the uniquely Detroit term "party store" usually means liquor store which is very likely to (believe it or not) have a drive through.

"A good reason why passing CCW in Michigan was the right thing to do." Well, it doesn't mitigate against CCW, but this would have been legal prior to the CCW law. I always kept a .357 under the counter at my camera store. I didn't have a CCW, but it was completely legal to have it there.

This article is BS. Sara Brady says handguns cause crime, not prevent it.

Can you tell me where in the Warren MI area there drive through party stores? Even in my old "hood" by City Airport, we didn't have them.

They were making a fashion statement.

This is incredible! This "store owner," a cretin who was concealing a deadly weapon, prevented these young men from pursuing a way of life that they had chosen. Who does he think he is, stepping in and stopping them from following what they have chosen as a gainful means of employment? This man should be arrested for preventing them from working, his store and its assets sold, and the proceeds given to these fine, young, upstanding men in order to make them feel better about being shot at while in the peaceful pursuit of their way of life.

I've never seen a drive through party store. I'm not from Detroit, but I've been there more than a few times, and probably would have noticed.

Somebody get me the store owners e-mail address. Guaranteed I can give him tips to change the headlines next time to robbers no longer able to commit crimes.

As I said...in the Detroit area.
I've seen and been to them in the Dearborn and Dearborn Heights area (back in the late '80's some drive throughs would even offer to make you a mixed drink in a go cup). Needless to say, these were somewhat less socially enlightened days.

If it saves one life, it's worth it!

Congrats on getting your CCW rights in Michigan. Maybe if we get a decent governor, such as Patrick O'Malley, we'll get some justice here in Illinois too!

I grew up near Dearborn and Dearborn Heights and have NEVER seen a drive-thru party store - much less one that would give you a mixed drink in a cup!

You guys got it all wrong.
It was a drive BY party store. It's where you get all your stuff to throw a drive by shooting party.
To: spanky_mcfarland
They dont use "Party Store" everywhere? thats interesting...
To: Dan from Michigan
I live in a town of 3000, about 50 miles 30 miles north od Detroit, and we have a party store with a drivethrough
