For the last few weeks, someone has been whining about BYU not being considered for the BCS bowls. Perhaps playing a bit tougher schedule might help.

Well, they didn't and a team that gave up ten points less to Colorado gets to play Miami for the National Championship! (Oh yeah, those Vols! How's it feel to have a minor league baseball player run for two touchdowns on QB draws?)
Yeah, it is Miami, the BAD CATHOLIC school. This is a win-win for all us lapsed and cafeteria Catholics. My wife, who used to get sent home for wearing fishnets and stilleto heels to school (and God forbid, a Ramones button), is doing a victory dance right now.
Whoops, stop the Bettie Page act, dear. The Vols are now in Tiger country.

Nebraska only has one loss. You are probably thinking of Colorado.

When I first saw this, I thought it was a basketball score. What does it say about your defense when you score 45 pts. and still lose by 27?
BYU is a lot like the 1999-2000 St. Louis Rams. Everybody during the regular season was touting how great they were because they were winning big and scoring 35 points a game. Problem is, they went 0-3 against teams that had a record of .500 or better. It's one thing to be beating up on easy opponents on a soft schedule. It's quite another to be beating up on Top 10 teams. BYU has just shown that they don't have what it takes to run with the big boys.

As a BYU alum, I must say it is truly telling that in order to even be considered for a shot at the national title, BYU must have a flawless season. Even if they had gone 13-0, the chances of them getting into the BCS were a long shot. They will be going to a bowl, however. Just not the BCS. The BCS is only for "deserving" teams who are to gutless to prove their superiority in a championship playoff.

You mean the Rams that beat the Titans in the 2000 Superbowl?
To: flying Elvis
Just think what would have happened if BYU had been selected to play Miami. It sure would have been embarrassing to give up 100+ points.
To: flying Elvis
Why not? Let people get what they wish for and learn to live with the consequences.

Yes I am talking about those Rams and I was also talking about the regular season. They fought their way through the playoffs and won the Superbowl. They deserved their championship. But it did gripe me a little bit that everybody was singing their praises while going 0-3 against teams with a winning record. They didn't prove jack to me until they went to the playoffs and were able to hang with the good teams. Beating up on teams like Cleveland and Cincinatti doesn't impress me. Beating teams like the Vikings does.

Bob Stoops said on Monday and again on Tuesday that he was not interested in going anywhere as OU was one of the best jobs in the Country. It was the press playing it up.

Hey, go easy on the Saints. They don't even have any beer to cry in.

BYU had a new Coach this year, Coach Crowton, who replaced Lavelle Edwards after many years of success at the school. He is a good coach with good promise.
Lavelle had learned through years of experience to keep his mouth shut and to be more humble and less presumptive. There is something about having a career losing record in bowl games that helps a person maintain perspective and keep the ego in check when it comes to such things. Getting kicked in the teeth year after year in December football maintains a balanced view of reality.
BYU fans can hope that Coach Crowton will learn from speaking out when he really hadn't earned the right to do so in his first season. They had a very good year, but anybody who watched their games would have to agree that they were flat lucky to win a number of those close games right at the end against mediocre to poor talent.
When BYU's top yard gainer was lost at the end of game 12 (Luke Staley) with a broken leg, it was a no-brainer that Hawaii would beat them in #13. No surprise there.... Lavelle would never have said some of the dumb things that Crowton said publicly this year, and realistic BYU fans will be hoping that Crowton wises up from his folly and embarassment late this season . . . We'll see how smart Crowton is at PR by how he reacts to the loss . . . Odds are that they will lose in the Liberty Bowl as well - so Crowton would be smart to do the humble bit in the meantime . . .

Back in another Liberty Bowl, BYU complained that they had to play Texas A&M and deserver a more competitive opponent. A&M cleaned their clock. It seems that at the end of the season BYU does more whining then winning.
To: beekeeper
Take it from a guy whose team lost to A&M this year, that is no cake walk. BYU needs to play a harder schdule if they want to claim a stake in a BCS bowl.

I repeat, as in an earlier thread about BYU, "They ain't that good." They had a game given to them by the officiating at Mississippi State, they didn't win it by their play.
