I highly recommend reading the book first. LTG Hal Moore's first hand account is a gripping read. You won't be able to put the book down. I hope the movie is loyal to the book.

Concur with your recommendations and your hope. The Moore/Galloway book is currently on my nightstand and I will get to it after I complete Lord of the Rings.

These days, I'm chasing books in advance of movie releases.

One other production you might want to check out. The Ia Drang was featured as part of a comprehensive albeit selective documentary on the war hosted by Jack Smith.

This feature aired on either the History or Learning Channels about a year ago. I found it to be done responsibly and with care. It might surface again as the release of the Gibson film approaches. It's certainly worth a look, IMO.

Smith is the son of former ABC news anchor Howard K. Smith. At first glance, I thought this was just more liberal spin on a war liberals are now sorry they sat out. But Smith the younger was a gunner in the Cav -- 1/9 unless I'm mistaken -- on the march from XRAY to ALBANY, and he did a really good job on this production.

I only the Gibson film is done as well.
