A Palestinian truck exploded in northern Ramallah this afternoon just before US envoy General Anthony Zinni's convoy was to pass by on his way to a meeting with Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat.
The Palestinian driver was killed in the explosion. There were no other casualties.
The explosion took place on the edge of PA-controlled Area A north of Ramallah, near where IDF troops were operating. The truck that exploded was carrying a large number of gas canisters, Israel Radio reported.
Field investigators said initial evidence indicates the explosion was a terrorist incident.
Security forces suspect the truck was booby-trapped and intended to target either Zinni's convoy or IDF troops in the area.
Palestinians said the blast was an accident. The explosion took place near a building used frequently by Palestinian gunmen shooting at IDF troops situated at the Ayosh junction. The regional District Coordinating Office is located adjacent to the scene.
Zinni's convoy was briefly delayed and passed through the PA-controlled territory a short time afterwards.

Islamic folks blowing up trucks in Ramallah during Ramadan? I am shocked!

Once again Arafat attempts to kill American diplomats. This is the same man who killed U.S. diplomats in Khartoum in 1973. Arafat is a terrorist and should be treated as such.

The Palestinian driver was killed in the explosion. There were no other casualties. They're gonna run out of Darwin Awards for these retards.
Does a Darwin Award disqualify a bumbling terrorist from obtaining his 72 virgins? Does he instead get 72 well-used truck-stop floozies?
So many questions...

The Palestinian driver was killed in the explosion. Time for the UN to condemn Israel again.

The Palestinian terrorist bombers have made real progress in the last week. They've gone from suicide bombers who kill themselves and kill and wound Isrealis, to suicide bombers who kill themselves and wound some others, to this pinacle of success. The bomber killed himself and blew up a perfectly good truck, but injured no one else. Fine work. Mr. Suicide Man. Now if all the other "searchers for Nirvana" can maintain the same hogh standard of excellence -- shortly the Palestinians will have no bombers and no trucks left, and will have exhausted their supply of C-4. Sounds like a win, win, win situation to me.

Now they are going to add his name to the list of Palestinians who died in this intifadah and blame the high number on Israel.

Palestinians said the blast was an accident. Interesting. Palestinians don't mention what caused the accident.

Palestinians said the blast was an accident. Now the Israelis can claim their missile attacks that killed Arafat were only an accident too? :)

My favorite suicide bomber is still the wild eyed bicyclist with a back pack bomb, peddling hell bent for leather for an Israeli bunker, evidently his prematurity problem caused him to blow himself up much too far away from the bunker to kill anyone but himself. The bicycle wheel rolled harmlessly to the bunker wall and bounced off. I have to wonder how much laughter that must have caused those viewing that sight from inside the bunker.

Any chance the explosives were set off by IDF EOD teams moving ahead of the convoy with a powerful transmitter to pre-detonate any radio controlled mines or carbombs?

That is I believe a very distinct possibility. Alas I doubt we will ever know with any certainty.
