I'd be obliged, Mr. Smith! Trent Lott is regarded in these parts as a Senator who finds it next to impossible to stand firm on principle when the rubber meets the road.

Case in point: during the conviction trial of President Clinton, Senator Lott allowed extremely constrictive rules that would in effect not allow the House Managers to present their case. No witnesses, etc.

He conspired to allow Clinton off without a real trial because he was desperately afraid of how the leftist elite would treat him. So I and many others blame Lott for Clinton being able to stay in office an extra two years and wreak untold havoc on our governmental system.

In that regards, other nominees would have to be Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee and Senator Stevens of Alaska. According to David Schippers, they sat with their heads in there heads and stared at the table while the Dems dictated the terms of the Senate proceedings. Schippers said the closest thing to an ally the house managers had in the room was Loserman!
