Washington, D.C., December 10, 2001 -- John W. Magaw, the current acting executive director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Office of National Preparedness, has been nominated by President Bush to serve as the first Under Secretary of Transportation Security at the Department of Transportation (DOT). The nomination was announced earlier today by U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta.

Mr. Magaw joined FEMA in December 1999 where he oversaw the agency's office of national security. He served as Acting Director of FEMA prior to the appointment of Joe Allbaugh, upon which he served as acting deputy director of the agency. Prior to joining FEMA, Mr. Magaw headed the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and served as director of the U.S. Secret Service.

"Mr. Magaw's vast experience and superb talents make him an ideal candidate to lead this critical new mission that has been created as a direct result of the September 11 terrorist attacks," said FEMA Director Joe Allbaugh.

Congress established the transportation security administration in November with the passage of the aviation security bill. The new DOT agency will assume airline security from the Federal Aviation Administration.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Magaw holds a bachelor's degree in education from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. He received the 1991 and 1999 Presidential Rank Meritorious Award and in 1995 received the Presidential Rank Distinguished Award.

Mr. Magaw's nomination is subject to Senate approval.

The United States is becoming governed by a permanent class of "conservative Democrat/moderate Republican" statists, who move freely into and out of different administrations and political affiliations (David Gergen, William Cohen), and even select States in which to run for the U.S. Senate when the mood strikes them (Clinton, Liddy Dole, Guiliani).

You are correct. Self-described "New Democrat" or "Third Way Democrat" would be more accurate in describing these would-be dictators.

And let's not forget Robert Mueller, Lee Radek, John Negroponte, Glen Fine, Norman Minetta, George Tenet, Pete Peterson, Thomas Pickering, Robert Strauss . . . and that great American who supports them all through every shift of party and administration, Jackson Stephens.

He received the 1991 and 1999 Presidential Rank Meritorious Award and in 1995 received the Presidential Rank Distinguished Award.

HA HA HA ... let's see the liberal Dems and holdover Clintonistas poke holes in the record of a man who got a Presidential Rank Distinguished Award from CLINTON!!

Have we ever had a president more clever, more adept at beating them at their own game than President Bush ?!?

This revamping of DOT's New Mission with a BATF/FEMA dude is going to be easier than shooting fish in a barrel. I'll bet the Build-a-Burger conspiracy theorists are apoplectic! Little do they know, we can place our absolute trust in this administration.

Well, save for that "all men are not created manufactured equal" ESCR thingy ... but those human lives are Excess Lives fit only for the trash can and really way too small to see without a microscrope anyway.
