The Talmud is a collection of what various Jewish scholars have said about the Old Testament. It was in oral form during Jesus' time, and the early volumes (the Mishnah, covering 100 BC to 200 AD) was written down after Jesus (around 200 AD). A second part (the Gemera) covers rabinical opinion to around 500AD. In some places it contains derogatory comments about Jesus and early Christians. An overview of the Talmud is available here.
The rabbis who engaged in Talmudic discussion were called the Pharasees in Jesus time. Jesus berates them a bit for concentrating on technicalities in their discussions while ignoring the spirit of the Laws.
