The previous year, 1998, hotel managers said they felt besieged by Black College Reunion guests. There was a stabbing on the 11th floor, 11 aggravated assaults on the upper floors, a major fight in the lobby and more than 25 break-ins in the parking lot. Drug use was rampant in the rooms, with some maids refusing to fight their way through marijuana smoke. Two employees were threatened at gunpoint, and sheriff's deputies took five guns from the rooms. Several rooms were damaged, the stairwells were sullied with trash and urine, and a naked woman was left unconscious on the front drive.
Because of that experience, the hotel beefed up its security in 1999 as never before.
IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT "FREAKNIK " IS......IT'S THE BIGGEST X-RATED SPRING BREAK PARTY IN THE U.S. WHERE YOU CAN FIND FREAKY THINGS GOING ON IN THE STREETS ALL OVER THE CITY. IT'S KINDA LIKE A "BLACK" MARDI GRAS.
AT ITS PEAK THERE WERE OVER 500,000 VISITORS TO ATLANTA FOR THIS ONE EVENT AND EVENTUALLY IT GOT OUT OF CONTROL. THERE WERE REPORTS OF GIRLS GETTING RAPED ON THE STREET, LOOTING, AND RIOTS. FREAKNIK HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN BANNED BY THE MAYOR OF ATLANTA BECAUSE OF THE X-RATED BEHAVIOR OF THE PEOPLE THAT ATTEND FREAKNIK.
THIS HASN'T COMPLETELY STOPPED FREAKNIK BUT IT HAS SLOWED IT DOWN IN ATLANTA DUE TO THE LARGE POLICE PRESENCE. SO NOW FREAKNIK HAS MOVED TO OTHER STATES INCLUDING DAYTONA BEACH, TEXAS AND ARIZONA.
The story that he was trying too post involved the Atlanta/Comdex fiasco. The large Comdex computer show was set to open in Atlanta, and like years past it was expected too draw a large foreign and domestic computer type crowd. As many as 100,000 serious nerds became entwined with a couple hundred thousand serious party persons. It was a disaster. Of course the Spring Comdex is now held in Chicago each year.
They were not all college students and the word had spread across the country about the happenin in Atlanta called, Freaknik. Lenox Square Mall in Buckhead was trashed and had become the training grounds for future such Freaknik sport.
