I know it's from a movie (BladeRunner) but I always liked the line "The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long"

Course my favorite movie line of all time is "Charlie don't surf"

" Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem....
We've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of government himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. "

~~ Ronald Reagan

From MASH: "Damn Army!"

From Catch-22: Our strength is our weakness, their weakness is their strength!

Many Scriptural quotes: Don't muzzle the ox"

John 3:17 because it doesn't start with 'except'...

One from Aurelius Maximus, I believe is notable. it refers to the classic nature of new political leaders to invoke change to bring about great things, when all it tends to do is obfuscate the obvious....I don't remember it, but always wish to find it when I need it.

I kinda like:

"We will bury our dead, mend up our wounded, soothe and comfort the broken hearted, beseech our God ... and then we will come amongst them as a Lion amongst sheep."

"Morality, when vigorously alive, sees farther than intellect." - British historian James Anthony Froude
"Those people who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants." - William Penn
"Liberty exists in proportion to wholesome restraint." - Daniel Webster (1847)(i.e., "There is no liberty without responsibility")

Dang, those are good. I especially like the first one.
Copied to my quotes file.

Democracy is the fine art of running the circus from the monkey cage. - H.L. Mencken.

You tell the Youth of America, "Here is the opportunity." And the Youth of America asks, "Where is the money?" - Casey Stengel.

I have never wished a man dead, but I have read a great many obituaries with a great deal of pleasure. - Clarence Darrow.

We proclaim ourselves, as indeed we are, the defenders of freedom, what is left of it in the world. But we cannot defend freedom abroad by abandoning it at home. - Edward R. Murrow.

"We do not sacrifice the rule of law to the will and whim of men. That it the old way. The old, sad, stupid way. The way of Xerxes and every creature like him.
A new age is begun. An age of great deeds. An age of reason. An age of justice. An age of law. And all will know that three hundred Spartans gave their last breath to defend it."

Of course it must be stated in front of a roaring campfire while gnawing on roasted gamebird, drinking stout ale, and emitting gutteral noises to have the appropriate effect.

My favorite quote? That's easy!

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro!"

That's from Hunter S. Thompson, by the way. Truly words to live by.

Persistence: Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

Winston Churchill
