In I believe it was 1927, the Ku Klux Klan lobbied Lansing, and in response Michigan's CCW laws were passed. They required applicants to go to a gun board comprised of the county sheriff, State Trooper, and county prosecutor. This was the case until July 1, 2001, when Michigan became a shall issue state.

Not many people know about this case. I didn't know about it until I looked at the history of our CCW law. It was aimed specifically at Dr Sweet. Later, it applied to people of all races.

It might be good to publicize this. Are contemporary (1927) sources available to document the Klan's hand in passing CCW laws?
