It only makes sense if you consider all the benefits to the government. They get billions of dollars and thousands of narcs with really cool guns. The dealers get rich and so do the Feds. The prosecutors get their paychecks. The cops get to rely on Confidential Informants instead of doing detective work, and they get to seize your assets for good measure. When you lock up a granny for selling weed, the prison industry gets more money. Everyone wins except the innocent subjects, I mean citizens.
