So called "second growth" will someday become "old growth". See, trees die of old age. Also, State Forestry Departments which practice total forest managemant, such as Pennsylvania's, have the fewest wildfires in the country. There's a reason for that, and it AIN'T "luck".

Not many years ago, even the New York State Forestry Department practiced a similar form of forest management. Last time Hubby did a job up there was 8 years ago. This summer, we'd like to get back there to see the results.

Of course it isn't luck -- it's the excess rainfall that PA gets!! </sarcasm>
