I can't say that I've read that book, and I'm not prepared to say that it never happened. Assuming that's correct, you are vindicated on that point. Congratulations.

Rather seems anti-climactic doesn't it? Given the wholesale human sacrificial system of this culture. One wonders sometimes whether justice, apart from any divine considerations, works itself out in naturalistic terms when this culture was destroyed (with the help, by the way, of a rival tribe).

I often wondered what would have happened if Cortez hadn't wiped them out. They were a reasonably advanced society, perhaps only a few hundred years behind European civilization.

If we hadn't discovered them, they would certainly have discovered us eventually.

Good thing we got there first.

The National Liberation Front of Tripura is CHRISTIAN, and is fighting to create a Christian state.

I love it when people tell the truth. This is probably a Catholic organization. Certainly not the Christianity I know...

One Priest Killed and Two Injured in Tripura Attack

India, July 25 -- Police in India's north-eastern state of Tripura say that a Catholic priest was killed and two others were seriously injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their vehicle early on Tuesday.

The Inspector-General of Tripura police, K Salim Ali, told the BBC that a jeep carrying the priests was heading for the remote village of Kanhmun, on Tripura's border with the Mizoram state, when it came under heavy fire on Tuesday.

Ali said that some tribal guerrillas in olive-green uniform were trying to kidnap two Bengalis travelling in another vehicle on the same road when the jeep carrying the Catholic priests appeared.

He said that the driver panicked and tried to speed away, leading the rebels to open fire. Ali said that one Catholic priest, Rev. Victor Crasto, was killed on the spot, while two other priests, Rev. Paul Leo and Rev. Alfred Fernandes, were seriously injured. The driver of the vehicle, a local tribal, was also said to be in a critical condition.

Rev. Crasto, who hailed from the western Indian state of Goa, was connected with the administration of a chain of Catholic schools called the Holy Cross in Tripura. Ali said that the identity of the gunmen could not be immediately established, but he said that the rebels possibly belonged to the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT). The NLFT actually seeks to impose Christianity on Tripura's tribal communities, but most of its guerrillas are Baptists rather than Catholics.

The Catholic Church in Tripura has generally stayed away from the controversy regarding the conversion of tribals. They had even appealed to the NLFT rebels to release four Hindu nationalist leaders of the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), who were kidnapped by the rebels in August last year and are still being held captive.

Tsk , Tsk not nice.

This is the first time I've ever heard of Baptist guerillas. It's simply amazing what you can learn here.

State Department's Take on Christian Persecution with this group.

iv. Hindus in Tripura State

The majority religious community has also been the subject of attack on the basis of religion. A Christian insurgent group in the northeastern state of Tripura called the National Liberation Front of Tripura, or NLFT, is reported to have banned Hindu and Muslim festivals in areas under its control. The NLFT has also been accused of burning Hindu temples and intimidating tribal peoples to convert to Christianity. The group contends that the dominance of Hinduism has resulted in the marginalization of Christians in Tripura. At the same time, Christian organizations in the northeast region claim an increase in attacks by militant Hindu groups against missionary schools, churches, and facilities in recent years.

Differences in perception

It's called turf wars among the extremists not the Amen Corner.

National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM)

NSCN (I-M) aims to establish a People’s Republic of Nagaland based on Mao’s ideology. Its manifesto is based on the principle of Socialism for economic development and a spiritual outlook- ‘Nagaland for Christ’.

NSCN(I-M) tries to use the growing discontent among the different ethnic groups of the north-east region against the Indian state. This, it believes, will accelerate the disintegration of the latter and help the cause of Naga independence. With this objective in mind it provides logistic support to other ethnic insurgent groups in the region like ULFA, NDFB, NLFT, PLA, etc. It supports the militancy in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

Nagas in India

Their influence is from China's so-called reformed (church sponsored) churches. Listen to Pat Robertson talk about China vs. the Catholic Church sometime. Their ties are also linked with Pakistan's ISI.

Outreach to Myanmar (Also called Burma)

This is very evident in a large region of SE Asia among millions of tribal or mountain people. These people live in places like Yunnan, China, Burma (Myanmar) and several bordering states of India (Nagaland, Mizoram, Assam, Megalaya). Due to God's supernatural revelation over the centuries, when missionaries first went to these areas over 100 years ago, the vast majority soon converted to Christ. Today they boast the highest percentage of Christians in the world. In January 1999 I conducted a crusade in Kohima, Nagaland, India. They claim 96% are Christians. However they desperately need a "Holy Ghost Revival" and return to pure Christian faith. Many of the churches are liberal Baptist churches that don't even practice the fundamentals of the faith.

The Religious Angle – Pat Robertson has descried the anti-China lobby gathering force among religious conservatives as "morally irresponsible and politically ignorant. Few things bring people together like a common enemy," he writes. "To some, China has done a masterful job of playing the villain. The China bashers prosper in direct mail and media campaigns, but they do not have the weight of righteousness on their side." [Wall Street Journal, June 30, 1998]

This nails the Sinophobes' lobby for what it is: a cynical attempt to cash in on the gullibility of all too many conservatives, who are sincere in their anti-Communism but know next to nothing about China.

How does it feel to be in the same boat as good "ole" Pat Robertson. Nice to know you side with the Amen Corner and China, while Catholic priests (that were part of your statistics) get killed by the so called Christians that you unkowingly or knowingly support.

I guess the Catholic priests don't know squat but you and Pat Robertson do.

I'm not sure why I'm flagged on this, but FWIW, I hope they don't trade nukes either. But if they do, do we blame Islam or Hinduism? Or both?

This remote region somehow escaped attention from the religious influences of Islam and Hinduism until recent times. There are numerous hill tribes in this region, some with less than a few thousand tribals. But missionaries have been active. In the 70's the Indian army made elaborate arrangements to fly in Billy Graham to this region by Army helicopter for a revival meeting.

The "militants" are rebel groups opposed to Indian rule and the immigrant inflows from Bangladesh. These are perceived as threats to their ethnic and tribal way of life, which also includes the Baptist faith. This is not by any stretch an attempt to force or establish a "Christian State". They couldn't care less that many of the tribes are still animistic. The rebels happily accept support from Bangladesh, Pakistan's ISI and the Chinese. If India loses influence in this area, it may end up becoming Islamic or communist - a la Tibet.

Good points. You can patently see 'duck soup''s agenda on this one. In his attempt to scour the planet for "Christian militancy", in the NLFT he hopes to find in this situation the fuel to mitigate the pandemic problem of Islamism and its terrorism - Indonesia, Malaysia, South Philippines, Pakistan, Algeria, Sudan, etc. etc., Instead, he is only succeeding is displaying the absurd lengths Arab Islamic propagandists will go to justify the Jihad or at least cast it in a more benign light.
