But those guys aren't slapstick.

They're standup. I like them also.

Slapstick is Keystone Cops, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, Three Stooges etc...

I miss the great ones too. Comedy has become too...sort of droll and sophisticated these days. I miss the slapstick and hi-jinks of the early comedians... Three Stooges Marx Brothers Bowery Boys All of the timeless.

I agree. Red Skelton was the best. I have a sister that is a professional comedian, and she has taken Red's words to heart'"If you have to be vulgar to be funny, you ain't funny." Very proud that my sister can do an hour of stand-up, clean.

I agree. Moving that piano up that long, long flight of steps is priceless. But don't forget the episode in which they play in a band, but get fired. Determined to make rent money by playing their instruments on the street, they stand on street corners and tootle. Naturally, they get into an argument, which consists of Ollie punching Stan in the belly. Stan immediately kicks Ollie in the shin. This exchange is repeated over and over until a stranger comes along. He gets a poke and a kick, and so does every other man who happens onto the scene, until every man in town is either poking or kicking, all in a crowd.

L&H were geniuses at setting up such ideal comedy routines, and dialogue was not necessary. Nobody did it better. Nobody, old or new.

Bob Newhart...the greatest in engaging the audience's mind during his shows....any of his "on the phone" routines (especially "Diffusing a Bomb" - my all-time favorite comedy routine) were pure magic.

Leslie Neilsen! I'm surprised there's been no mention of him so far. He's not the greatest in my opinion but he's definitely the best still working.

But those guys aren't slapstick.

Although mainly a standup comedian, Jonathan Winters did the greatest slapstick bit ever in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" - literally destroying a little rinky-dink gas station out in the desert. Marvin Kaplan and Arnold Stang were his terrified foils - funniest thing I've ever scene.

Also, Jackie Gleason did some slapstick on some of his old TV shows.
