I too, take issue with the expansion of government at all levels. With every expansion, freedom is diminished.

"And, while I'm thinking about it, QUIT trashing our conservative candidates. If you want to criticize someone's position on some policy, have at it. But do not trash or smear the man. -snip- The idea is to get more conservatives elected, not to trash the ones you don't like. If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat...."

Amen to that, Mr Robinson, and thank you.
Right now we have war on two fronts. Internationally against the scourge of terrorism and domestically against the scourge of liberalism. In both cases our opposition's objective is the same they want to eliminate us, eradicate us off the face of the earth. On both battlefields we conservatives would do well to remember President Reagan's 11th Commandment, Thou shall not speak ill of a fellow Republican.

"You left out an area, what's your belief on abortion?"---I really don't know. I vacillate all over the place on it. I always think that it is wrong. Sometimes I think it should be legal. Other times, not. I think that if you are big enough to make a baby, you're big enough to raise one. I have a complete lack of respect for 95% of the women who get them. I do not believe that most are under-age victims of their sex-crazed step fathers or uncles. I think most women who get them are just messing where they shouldn't be messing and taking the easy way out.

The problem for me is whether or not they should be legal. Rather I like it or not, many people sincerely just do not think it is murder. For example, I have a friend who really believes that the fetus is just a blob until some months into the pregnancy. She had an abortion when she was much younger. Now she has one child and is pregnant with her second. She is a very good mother, but she just plain doesn't believe that the fetus has a soul until later in the term. Do I have the right to force people like her to carry a baby to term? Right now I think not. Ask me next week and I am likely to think yes. I really do not have a good answer to this one. Sorry. parsy.

What I wanna know is this:

Why does swiss cheese, that starts out fairly firm, get all gooshy when I grate it? I think I know why the parmesan gets hard as a rock, just sitting there.

If you disagree with a policy or position of Lott, have at it, but don't smear the man unless he's a democrat.

Without launching right now into a diatribe (well deserved, I should add) against Trent Lost, I say we FREEPs refrain from insulting each other. We are not the problem, nor are we the drains upon the public teats. But elected officials; who are living on your bucks and mine, who are trying to seduce us every so often into handing them our votes and then turning their backs on the principles by which we voted for them; or, public officials who were appointed or otherwise confirmed by said elected representatives and behave as though they think themselves above the scrutiny of the people or the laws under which they are employed or they are charged to uphold or enforce (and while we're at it, how's about finding candidates who might be inclined more toward repealing law than making law); ought never to be kept immune or exempted from our opprobrium. Regardless of the party rocks from under which they burrow.

"And QUIT trashing each other. You know who you are. Knock it off! Way too many flamewars and feuds going on. And, while I'm thinking about it, QUIT trashing our conservative candidates. If you want to criticize someone's position on some policy, have at it. But do not trash or smear the man. That would include Browne, Buchanan, Bush, Keyes, et al, or whomever else may be your favorite trashee (examples listed in alphabetical sequence). The idea is to get more conservatives elected, not to trash the ones you don't like. If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat. Thank you."

QUIT trashing our conservative candidates.

I can't find any conservative candidates to trash, other than Ron Paul! And why would I want to trash such a great Statesman? However, I can find plenty of Republican candidates to trash -- you know, all the fake conservatives!

If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat.

I fail to see the distinction between trashing a Democrat and trashing a non-conservative Republican, of which there are many!

Consumer Price Index for year 2001 + 1.6%

The price of energy dropped about 25% in 2001, down from the Clinton spike of year 2000. Inflation for the year was about 2.8% without this energy spike. You then must add the increase in population which was about 1.5% for the year 2001. 2.8% + 1.5% = 4.3% increase needed for status quo spending.

Fiscal Year 2002 proposal as submitted in Spring 2001 Total Expense............................1960.6

Fiscal Year 2001 comparison.........................................................................................1856.2

increase Year over Year as submitted by the President...............................................+ 5.62% MORE THAN triple the rate of inflation

The President only has veto discretion over -- the discretionary budget.

- The 2001 enacted discretionary budget was 635 billion.
- The 2002 submitted discretionary budget is 660 billion.
- The increase in submitted discretionary budget is 4.0%
- The increase in the CPI 2.8%(not including energy) plus the increase in U.S. population of 1.5% equals a 4.3% increase needed in spending to break even with 2001 levels of spending.
- The 2002 discretionary budget thus reduces the currect levels of discretionary spending by (4.0% - 4.3%) yielding a -0.3% reduction in discretionary spending.

You can even take this a step further and calculate the discretionary spending without the military spending spike needed because of you-know-who. This would take the discretionary spending increase to 3.1% instead of 4% for the year 2002.

Spending increases by department are as follows(All except Military and Education are below the inflation rate plus population increase).

Agriculture -1.4
Commerce -0.4
Defense +14.1
Education +4.6
Energy -0.5
HHS +2.8
HUD +1.9
Interior -0.4
Interntl Affairs+1.2
Justice -1.1
Labor -0.6
Transportation -2.1
Treasury -0.7
Vet Affairs +1.0
Corp of Eng. -0.6
EPA -0.2
FEMA -0.2 (Even NWO Enforcement is being cut)
NASA +0.3
Nat. Sci Fd. +0.1
Sm Bus Admin +0.3
SSA +0.3

All of this of course should just be a first step!

Ron Paul is not rated that highly as a conservative by the ACU.

You are being way to generous to liberals. They now openly accept that while the majority of Ameircans consider it murder, they crow that according to their polls the majority also claim it should be up to the mother whether to murder or not. And they may be right, such is the state of our moral slide: Most call it murder but most think the mother should have that choice.
