To my shock and amazement, I found out through one of our local freepers here in the NW that portland cops, the majority armed with semi-autos, don't go to the range for periods of over two years in MOST cases.
It's pathetic. If you don't go to the range, or train on the proper use of the gun at least once every month or two, HOW the hell can you claim proficiency.
I always assume a gun is loaded. EVERY gun I see is loaded. EVERY gun I touch is loaded, EVEN after I empty it, ESPECIALLY the semi autos, chambering one, while holding a full clip.
Accidents happen, but I never understand it. HOW can a trigger with a 3-5 pound pull ever be tripped ACCIDENTALLY? While aimed at a kid's head? ACCIDENTALLY? This is why cops cannot be trusted to stop crime, or enforce the laws at gunpoint. Some don't even KNOW or apparently practice the basic logic of firearm safety.
If you call officer 911 after the felony, he is just as likely to shoot himself in the foot, whack your sleeping kid by ACCIDENT, or otherwise compound your victimhood. It is best to simply arm yourself, go to the range, preach to your wife and kids about how to make sure guns are never pointed at anything you don't expect to die or be destroyed. And then teach them how to SAFELY shoot a 6-9 inch spread at 50 feet.
Basic training on the equipment and reinforcement of common sense safety with any potentially dangerous tool. It works for cars, well, for most folks that is.
This cop should go to jail. HOW could this be an accident? I just don't get it.
How do you know it was a guy?
