Outrage from New Hampshire!
Our friends at sister site PoliticsNH.com brought this offensive political cartoon to our attention. It was drawn by Mike Mariand and printed in today's Concord Monitor.
We don't have a problem with those who criticize President George W. Bush. In fact, we've taken a few shots at the Commander-in-Chief ourselves, when we thought he deserved rebuke. But to use the horrific September 11th terrorist attack on the World Trade Center that killed almost 3,000 innocent civilians to make a political point about the president's budget is disgusting. If Mariand were drawing cartoons in 1941, would he have drawn President Franklin Roosevelt piloting one of the Japanese fighter planes that participated in the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor to convey his opinion on an issue of the day?
If you would like to tell the folks at the Concord Monitor what you think about their political cartoon, we urge you to e-mail Mark Travis, the editorial page editor at mtravis@cmonitor.com. (2/8)

Truly,
That is so sad.....:(
Now I'm even angrier at this mentally deranged cartoonist, if that's possible.
President Bush flying an airplane into twin towers labeled "Social" and "Security." The purpose wasn't to equate the President with terrorists to make a cheap political point, or was it?
Are you out of your minds? Your paper doesn't deserve to be preserved. I've never seen such tastless garbage published in a widely read paper. Whatever one's views of the President, this political cartoon will kick off wide and justifiable outrage. I sincerely hope the the Concord Monitor issues a swift and deeply contrite public apology for this and makes DAMN sure nothing of this sort happens again.
Otherwise you and your paper can go straight to hell as far as I'm concerned.
Very Sincerely,
Sean.
My blood's still boiling. It's comforting seeing the mutual outrage of so many here and the scathing rebukes they're sending to these morons. Evidently the Concord Monitor and another paper are both in trouble and merging in an attempt to remain in business. Anything we can do to prevent this paper's survival will be more than warranted.
Warm Regards.

Letter to the editor
Mike Marland and the editor showed real "compassion" by implying that as a 50-year-old, having gone deaf from an auto-immune disease, Rush Limbaugh should have become mute instead. I guess their "compassion" is selective.
JANIS MANGER Bow
That was tasteless and not amusing. We all want a laugh, but not at the expense of thousands of families who lost loved ones on 9/11.
Mike Marland talks to us about his career at the Concord Monitor. He explains how they don't print all his cartoons.
I think that what it really should say is: He's a lucky ba$t@rd that they print any of his cartoons.
It sounds like he may have been sharing pornography with the students as well:
Mike Marland shows us a clever way to draw President Clinton...
Your "cartoon" Of President Bush flying into the WTC is the sickest and vilest piece of garbage I've ever seen in a "family" newspaper...This filth is being seen from shore to shore, and your paper is going to find itself BURIED in E-Mails, letters, and phone calls....If I were you, I'd take a long vacation...somewhere outside this great country...I and many others, as of today, don't want you here anyways.
name removed to protect me from you crazies Durango, CO that's right, Colorado
