Iraq was so incensed at their own inability to inflict any actual damage to the American war machine, that they fired their SCUD's at the only target they could hit....Israel. They bet (corretctly) that Israel would listen to our pleading "please don't F- up our nice coalition", and not retaliate. Good thing for Iraq that Israel did not, they are very skilled in "immediate, total, and dispropartional" method of kicking butt.
Not quite, they also fired a bunch at Saudi Arabia and other Gulf coutries with American bases. Ask a bunch of widows, widowers, and bereved parents and children in Pennsylvania. (A PA reserve forces unit took particularly heavy hit on the building they were using as a barracks.)
