Not always, even when Ike sent the Marines there in the 50s, it wasn't really all that bad. Until the PLO and our buddy Yassar A. moved in after being kicked out of Jordan by King Hussein (and the Arab Legion of course :) ) Then the place really went to hell in a handbasket. Israelies kicked the A man out of there, and could (and IMHO should) have killed him and his Fatahistas.
